Horrendous parking situation in the sense of already not having enough garages and then waiting for a huge tow of cars to go in and out of a parking garage, delaying me by 10 minutes, driving to the next garage and having the same experience, finally finding something 0.8 miles away and showing up 30 minutes late to my reservation which has now been given away


There is a huge excess of parking in downtown Bethesda. A few of the garages are in demand, the rest are mostly empty.

You can nitpick my experience all you want. The reality is that the supply of parking is insufficient for areas where they expect people to actually want to shop or eat, and therefore they have lost a lot of business opportunities


I'm not nitpicking your experience at all. I'm sure it happened just as you said. The reality is that

1. there is a huge number of empty parking spaces in downtown Bethesda
2. there are a lot of people going where you're trying to go (because otherwise the parking garages would be empty)

You're describing a It's So Crowded, Nobody Goes There Anymore problem, not a lack-of-parking problem.

The problem with Bethesda parking is they're way too zealous about enforceent. During the week, you have to pay for parking until 10pm. What other place has paid parking going on until that late?

The cost to park isnt' crazy, but if you overstay the slightest bit, you get a ticket and that's $50+.

So, I can go out for dinner toinght and pay for parking in Bethesda, or go basically anywhere else in the area and public parking is free in the evenings.

That's the thing, right? I'm all for safety nets, but they should be boosting the economy to pay for them. Not just increasing taxes. That further stagnates things. Nobody has a real plan to create jobs that provide today's younger workers a way up the ladder.

MoCo homestead - all got $692 off the bill. Assessment could be 1m or less than 100k. No income submission and it was a flat amount on owner occupied.

Go look up the entire employment history of virtually everyone running MoCo. They've hardly ever had real jobs in their entire careers and have only worked for the govt, think tanks, or communist activist org fluff. They entirely depend on tax dollars funding their salaries, so of course they want to raise taxes. By 'not keeping up with inflation', they really mean they feel like their own personal salaries aren't keeping up with inflation, therefore raise taxes.

MoCo is turning into Baltimore - huge taxes that will cause the base to flee, flight of businesses due to hostile govt policies, and a downward death spiral where the only solution is to keep raising taxes. R.I.P. MoCo.

The $692 is not the Homestead Tax Credit, but instead the Income Tax Offset Credit (ITOC). Property owners must have applied for the Homestead Tax Credit to receive the ITOC.

Yes-I get it. The $692 ITOC is paid by a credit on property taxes for owner occupied units and is not determined by income. It reduces the amount of property tax bills for owner occupied units so if you rent or have investment property you don't get the $692 per unit. Bottom line is what has to paid in property tax and all the possible credits related to having the homestead.
