More Chaos at ACHS

I think there is some serious gang/crew war going on right now. The slashing at dismissal yesterday affirmed my belief. I hope the SRO / safety meeting is to address this reality.

I thought it happened at lunch, not dismissal. My son is not at King Street yet, but that is what he heard at sports practice yesterday.

Police scanner indicates dismissal. There was a massive fight at lunch yesterday. Slashing is separate. Also massive fight at MH today when the power briefly went out and the kids utilized the opportunity.

I would be shocked if it were addressed. Alexandria politicians like to claim gangs do not exist in Alexandria or it's schools

You think attitudes like that, which are pervasive in Alexandria, esp among Wilson's mommy mafia and PTAC, that the environment at any ACPS will get better. They deny there are fights, they deny there are gangs, and now parents are denying that people need Narcan.

I don't think the environment will get better so long as the schools are as overcrowded as they currently are, and there are so few alternative programs for kids who cannot function in a regular school environment. To me, this is the case of the problem.

It's time for ACPS and the School Board to stop just talking about the new George Mason becoming a K-8 or a new middle school. It needs to happen to alleviate some of the crowing at GW. It has to happen.

I’ve lived here for 9 years and have never heard a politician say that. I’m gonna need some citations.

Canek Aguirre definitely said it about 18 months ago.

Then at the Return the SROs rally, Councilor Canek Aguirre said there was “no evidence of gang violence in the schools.” He then dismissed the impassioned pleas of Principal PreAnn Johnson and a parent of a child who was bullied and got in a fight. Even former T.C. Williams Principal John Porter has practically begged council to keep the SROs.

That is far from overwhelming evidence that a failure to acknowledge, as opposed to take steps to address, gang violence in the schools is an issue. Also, there is little gang violence at GWMS, but my child has been bullied and involved in a fight. I believe that the reason was their sexual orientation, though I have no way to prove this.

No, this is the evidence you asked for.

So you’re just like all the rest of them; deny deny deny, it doesn’t involve my kid, until it does.

Last year a kid shot at Bradlee, stumbles into Duck Donuts, about 50 kids in parking lot but nobody saw nothing.

Last June a kid is stabbed in the stomach and dies at Bradlee, a sophomore is charged with murder, students hold a candle light vigil where a reporter came and took their photos and the kids were flashing gang signs. School cancelled for the REST OF THE YEAR because school System afraid of gang on hand retaliation. This was definitely gang related, I used to drive a kid for an activity last year for a kid who who was in 6th at GW and had a brother at ACHS. His from El Salvador. He had videos of the stabbing, knew exactly what gangs were involved.

This week a handgun confiscated from a student at Minnie Howard

Also this week, a student was shot, killed and body dumped out of a car on S Reynolds (gang retaliation).

Sure, your son has never seen it so it doesn’t exist, on repeat. Get your head out of the sand.

And the slashing at dismissal just yesterday. Add to this all the signs in the community of gang violence. The drive by on Martha Custis a few weeks ago. Oh and the shooting if someone in the face in the middle of the day on a Thursday. How about that “sudden death” near Potomac yards. It is ok to still love Alexandria, even with its mounting problems, but if denying reality will just make it worse. The police chief is on the record that our schools have a gang/crew problem. I swear us living in reality just have to continue pushing boulders up hills

Whether or not there are gangs I think we can all agree than canek Aguirre is the worst. He needs to go. Schools should have the ability to keep the students and staff safe without an idiot city council member overriding everything.

Also, I think it's so sad that we don't even know the name of the student who was murdered in broad daylight in the middle of a school day in front of his classmates only a block from the school. Why is his name secret!?

I know that many students have times in the day where they may not have a class or have the opportunity to seek help from a teacher, so not directly sitting in a classroom. However, all that said, there are large numbers (sometimes 100 or more kids) just wandering around outside (that I can see from my window) during the day. They hop on the bus in front of my house at 11 or 12 (before school is out) and leave.

It seems like a truly open campus. I went to a large high school as well, with over 4000 students and several buildings. So I understand transitioning outside. But this is not a class/ lunch transition, it’s hanging out for hours.

I know the issues with AHCS but they gave these kids free rein for long it’s hard to put the genie back in the bottle. Obviously you can’t lock them in there, but I don’t know what you do as it’s lots of students outside all day.

Actually you can lock them in. My very good highschool in California had gates around it. And just look at Bishop Ireton they look locked in with gates completely surrounding the school.

Of the four who obviously carried Wilson's water to get rid of the SROs - two are still on the council - Canek and Chapman - and one - Elizabeth Bennett Parker - was elevated to delegate by Alexandrians. Don't give Canek all the credit!

Are you talking about the stabbing at Bradlee or is this a new murder?

There is no whether or not. There are.
