If Beyoncé wants to win AOTY she needs to drop Jay and get her groove back. Her music turned dark since she married him or at least since all his cheating mess and he is bringing her down.

I thought Bey was going to win and was surprised she didn't but honestly this was not AOTY material, if she'd won it would have been a mea culpa for Lemonade losing. That album really SHOULD have won that year.

But still this idea that Beyonce is owed all of these accolades is really poisonous to other nominated artists. They asked one person if they were rooting for Beyonce (an artist of color FWIW) and they were like, 'well kind of but I'm also in the category so.....'

There is a ton of great music out there, IMO Harry's album was better. Renaissance was pretty boring for me.

I just don't think her music has broad enough appeal. I have listened to her music and tried to like it but I just don't.

This rudeness by her fans towards other musicians does not reflect well on Beyonce. The entitlement is off-putting.

I keep hearing BTS and the other Kpop groups are so popular. Yet, they are not seen at these award shows. I mean I know some white folks love Kpop more than Taylor Swift. How about Jackson Wang. This guy can speak 4+ languages. James Corden even did a segment with this guy.

I agree that lemonade should’ve won over 25. Beyonce reminds me of Ivanka Trump in that she controls her image and doesn’t share many opinions, allowing fans to project a personality or character traits onto her. I don’t understand why people defend her so strongly when we know very little about her.

Sometimes the academy awards body of work and I suspect that was going on here. Also Willie Nelson winning 2 big country categories.

Sure. But the Academy did that more than 30 years ago when they gave her all the awards for Nick of Time. Let’s face it, the Grammy voters don’t understand most music today.

Its not a diss of the song. It’s a diss on the Grammys continued struggle to be relevant. They haven’t managed to give album awards to Beyoncé or Kendrick. I mean, really?

I know this is hard for you to understand, but there are tons of people who don't like Beyonce and Kendrick's music. Like someone upthread said, I've never understood the Beyonce worship. But you can listen to what you like if it makes you happy.

These awards shows are all so stupid anyway. There's all kinds of music for all kinds of people. Who gets to decide these things?

And it's the fact that there's "all kinds of music for all kinds of people" that makes the Academy's continued failure to recognize excellent Black artists, such as Beyoncé and Kendrick, at least a little problematic. It's the Academy's continued focus on aging musicians that makes them look stodgy and irrelevant. One doesn't have to listen to hip hop to understand that.

Grammies think they are the top judges of world music but they know very little about foreign language musicians. They even displayed the wrong BTS photo when they announced their nominated music video for the category. The Grammies are about as relevant as a BBMA at this point, but they keep trying to keep themselves at the top despite being out of touch.
