That was before the pandemic exposed what a fraud office culture is and how modern technology and communications have relegated office culture to the 20th century. Everyone accepted commutes before, because they were forced companies to do so, and modern telecom infrastructure didn't exist yet. Technology has changed and exposed how much work can be done fine 100% remotely. It has made commutes unnecessary and obsolete. You sound like an old crab about people who probably complained about still having to use stupid typewriters when computers came into existence. Get with the times and use modern technology please. Or get the hell out of the workforce and let the country modernize. Dinosaurs with 20th century mindset are dragging this country down. |
+1 I am in a hybrid schedule who can go in when I want. But all the ones who “need” people to come into the office to justify their middle management position is quite hilarious to me. |
80 percent of jobs are BS. ChatGPT can already take them over. It’s gonna be ugly. |
Well, your boss disagrees, so that's all that matters. Go find a new job if you're too important to "waste time" on a commute. |
Yup, many management positions. |
No. It's actually children who want to stay at home in their PJs all day, pretending to work and produce "deliverables" who are dragging the country down. |
How sad if all the challenges we went through in the last three years just result in our "going back to normal" instead of making positive changes in all facets of life - including work-life balance |

Why don’t you get to a level where you’re the one making the decisions? Until you are, you’re going to have to do as you’re told regardless of your feelings. And for the people talking about their managers making the decision to have their reports return to the office, I can’t believe that’s the way things work. At my very large company (40k employees), the CEO made a decision and that was it. It definitely was not middle mangers and have no control over the company policy. |
Nope my boss doesn't. I am full-time remote thank you ![]() |
The problem is, I, as your boss/ company owner, don't want to pay for your definition of work-life balance. You simply aren't that important to my company. |
Sorry you can't watch Netflix while you work anymore. |
Are you my DH? He has complained bitterly about all of these things, but he makes a lot of money and his company and office space offer enough benefits that I would feel like a total schmuck for whining. I go into the office on a similar cadence and it's no better for me, worse probably because I work in a pretty austere location. But I prep the night before so the morning doesn't suck, I like my coworkers, and I need the change of scenery. I'm also into audiobooks so my commute flies by.
I don't know, I'm not a pollyanna at all and the pandemic, parenting, and life, in general, have been depressing for me the past few years. This is just one thing I can't find it in me to complain about. |
I was thinking the same thing. that and heaven forbid this dude go to be a little earlier so that precious 1.5 hours of lost sleep one day doesn't kill him. |
