Ya 6+ miles seems normal to a DCC parent. It's because of things like moving Blair the largest HS in the county from downtown silver spring to outside the beltway while maintaining the same boundary. |
I love when people pull distance arguments out of their rear end. The Kensington neighborhoods zoned for BCC are about 4 miles from BCC and wait for it…about 4 miles from Woodward
|
Exactly, and even closer to Einstein so makes sense for BCC to be part of boundary changes. |
"The edge of the Juan de Fuca plate is in a subduction zone." "Exactly, that's why it makes sense for BCC to be part of the boundary changes." |
This. Im in the DCC: 1.2 miles from Blair, 1.5 from Northwood but zoned to Einstein which is 3 miles away. And 5 from Woodward. So probably not going to be rezoned there but if there was a whole county rezoning study, it would make sense to rezone our house and our ES to Blair or Northwood. But they are also overcrowded. |
Pp again. Oh and 3.5 miles from BCC too. |
A lot of this instantiy stems from when Blair was relocated from DTSS to outside the beltway. In fact, there are no HS in the SE portion of the county inside the beltway which is densly populated. This is partly why boundaries in the DCC are a mess and there's really no way to fix it. |
Oh they could fix it by adjusting boundaries everywhere but everyone would flip the f*** out. |
Some kids can go to WJ from BCC, they don't have to bus to Woodward. WJ can move more kids to Woodward to make extra space. So on .... |
Woodward is for WJ and the DCC. BCC is not part of it, no matter how many times you post on DCUM. |
+1 Not doing proper boundary studies will be an extremely poor decision. MCPS already took inputs earlier from all clusters and there is no reason to not continue with the process just because some rich families in BCC or any other school does not want it. Now if some BOE members get paid to abandon this process then it's a different issue. |
Current school catchments aren't immutable, populations and needs change, and, despite schools being listed by agents when a home is on the market, the purchase of a home or signing of a lease does not confer a right to any particular school. Folks are making suggestions within a discussion. One that is unlikely to have any real influence over MCPS/BOE decisions, but one that is reasonable to have and with the potential to be informative. No matter how many times you rail against that. |
Let me know when MCPS changes the CIP. |
What's does it even mean? WJ is not outside of MCPS. It's all one system. I am not sure what do you mean by how many times posing here. I have not posted in this forum for more than 1 years. MCPS should do what's best for entire MCPS. Yes, Woodward aim is to help WJ in overcrowding. But when doing the process, it's best to look at all adjacent boundaries to come up with something which does not involve long bus ride and also create diverse schools. That means diverse schools as much as possible in as many schools without having long bus rides. BCC, Churchill etc may not have overcrowding, but all boundaries should be looked at same time. That may mean shifting school population in Churchill. Whitman, BCC, WJ, DCC , Wootton, RM .... It will be criminal for BOE to not do what's best for entire student population and simply listen to nonsense like Woodward is for WJ. This is the best time to do widescale boundary change. Current set of parent getting angry should never be a reason to not do what's best for next 30 years. |
They need to do this though. There is no reason with this overcrowding, traffic, price of gas, all of the talk of teens need to sleep, and serious lack of buses and bus drivers, should ANY potential walkers or neighboring neighborhoods be bused to a further schools. If the SEC or races aren't matching and seem unfair, put the IB and Magnets in those schools. |
