Nobody considers teachers to be "babysitters," but Randi Weingarten pretends this attitude is widespread among parents because mothers dare to work outside the home while kids are at school. But sure keep bashing parents and then complaining that parents are not "kind".

I mean.. seek some help.

Do you really not get how offensive these retorts are? Calling people "unhinged" and telling us to "get help" because we question what the teachers' unions say is not ok. I guess I shouldn't be surprised a person who thinks parent bashing is cool has zero respect for people with mental illness.

This isn’t a union issue. I’m a parent too. I’m embarrassed by parents like you. When will you finally step up and take responsibility? It’ll probably take forever, so we will just wait.

You sound just as classless as the PP. It's really sad that so many on DCUM are cool with the "babysitters" and "unhinged" rhetoric. If you really feel so strongly about defending teachers I guarantee you'll be more convincing of you don't use this ridiculous and offensive language.

I wish I were waking up early to go to work. Instead I'm waking up early to scramble because I have an important and busy day and now 2 kids in tow because someone at MCPS made a bad call.

You decided to have kids. This is your responsibility. How is this hard to understand?
.

Don't you worry about me, I handle my responsibilities. I wish MCPS would do the same. They have a responsibility to educate children and are failing, and pushing all of that back onto parents. We are sick of it.

Just a reminder that a PLANE flew into the power lines of a community and thousands, 120,0000 + were affected and this is what you focus on?
Come on, people. Show some compassion and understanding that it was a freak accident and those people are lucky to have their lives and we are lucky the community didn’t get hurt. The blame game is getting old. They might the right call at the time.

The pilot and passenger are fine. The entire county has power. This is a bad call and they had the ability to reverse it at 5am but they didn't. We can have compassion and anger simultaneously.

Not an excuse to bring in the "babysitters" and "unhinged" rhetoric

That’s your opinion and not fact.

How does every thread become a reason to bash teachers.
This was a freak accident that had nothing to do with teachers.
I know it is frustrating that schools are closed today but again - it has nothing to do with teachers.

Wow. When teachers resigned en masse I hoped those who had hurled vitriolic abuse at them in 2020 understood they had pushed them to the brink.

You cannot get good teachers for your kids if you abuse teachers at every opportunity!!! This situation has nothing to do with teachers!!!

Hateful trolls.

Is the selfish rich guy going to have to pay damages?

Power was back by 1 AM. PEPCO had been able to reroute power around the damaged tower. No reason for schools to be closed.

Another opinion lacking facts. Clearly there was a reason and now it is.

What are the facts then that support keeping the schools closed?

Safety checks have to run at the schools that lost power.
