Offices are closed too so the whole system is shut down. That's more than a regular snow day.

It would also make zero sense to have virtual school when the reason for closure is power outages.

Not all of us, including you have power outages.

True. But lots of teachers may live in lots of places that have power outages.

And how will they blow dry their hair with the power out? Clearly they had no choice but to shut it down. How could someone possibly be expected to teach with damp hair? Or teach with hair that was washed more than 24 hours ago? That would be crazy!

You sound unhinged.

This was absolutely the reason given in original thread for why mcps needed to close. I kid you not.

Yes, and you hysterically perseverating about it makes you sound unhinged.

Longer message posted on MCPS website:

UPDATE: UPDATE: All MCPS schools and offices remain closed today, Monday, Nov. 28.
As of 4:00 a.m. PEPCO has restored electric power to all MCPS schools and offices. After a widespread power outage, staff need to assess all buildings for their safety and other systems readiness such as heat, water and network connectivity; this work will be done throughout the day. All childcare programs are canceled. Food service at any MCPS school is not available today.

We expect normal MCPS school operations to return on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

We recognize any disruption of operations is an inconvenience for our families and we appreciate the ongoing support and understanding of our community.

This is nonsense and so perfectly sums up MCPS. Overreact and then double down.

It’s so rough to be a teacher— needing to briefly wake up at 5am to get your paid day off.

Your jealousy is unbecoming.

it is so obvious that the hair dryer poster is not a teacher.
ignore and move on.

They described themselves as an mcps teacher. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t believe them on that.

1. it’s an anonymous forum
2. i actually am a teacher and have witnessed the incredibly hateful things that have been said about us over the last 2.5 years, this reads as a pissed off parent or troll who just wants to stir the pot.

be kind to one another. it really isn’t that hard

Teachers, including their union, have not been remotely kind to parents. It goes both ways whether you want to recognize it or not.

Thanks, MCPS. You are now officially more stupid than Loudoun County Public School system.

Nobody considers teachers to be "babysitters," but Randi Weingarten pretends this attitude is widespread among parents because mothers dare to work outside the home while kids are at school. But sure keep bashing parents and then complaining that parents are not "kind".

Dp. I think someone whining about having to wake up at 5 am is unbecoming. But we obviously live in different worlds (in my world, we wake up early and go to work).

I wish I were waking up early to go to work. Instead I'm waking up early to scramble because I have an important and busy day and now 2 kids in tow because someone at MCPS made a bad call.

You decided to have kids. This is your responsibility. How is this hard to understand?

I mean.. seek some help.

Why couldn’t the schools that never lost power still open? This is so frustrating.

Do you really not get how offensive these retorts are? Calling people "unhinged" and telling us to "get help" because we question what the teachers' unions say is not ok. I guess I shouldn't be surprised a person who thinks parent bashing is cool has zero respect for people with mental illness.
