MCPS closed tomorrow

This was a freak accident that had nothing to do with teachers.
I know it is frustrating that schools are closed today but again - it has nothing to do with teachers.

Then don't respond to people bashing teachers. I'm sure not every teacher badges parents, and not every parent bashes teachers. So much would be solved if people would stop responding to trolls.

It is one day. Relax people.
I’m sure MCPS did not take this decision lightly. They were I’m sure in close communication with Pepco.
Your kids will be fine. Let them watch tv for a day if you have to work. It is just one day.
My kids are thrilled with the unexpected closure. I’m glad they can sleep in for one more day. HS start times in MCPS are ridiculous but that is another story

Come on, people. Show some compassion and understanding that it was a freak accident and those people are lucky to have their lives and we are lucky the community didn’t get hurt. The blame game is getting old. They might the right call at the time.

The pilot and passenger are fine. The entire county has power. This is a bad call and they had the ability to reverse it at 5am but they didn't. We can have compassion and anger simultaneously.

Power was back by 1 AM. PEPCO had been able to reroute power around the damaged tower. No reason for schools to be closed.

Safety checks have to run at the schools that lost power.

I don’t understand why this can’t be done in a few hours, and just do a delayed opening.

Also, why are care programs not allowed in unaffected schools? Seems like an overreach blanket decision by MCPS

This is an annoying response. People with little kids can't just leave them home all day watching TV. Your response of "its not inconveniencing me that much so get over it" is equally as bad.

Why are you surprised? It’s transparently an excuse to give teachers an extra day off.

Dcum will always blame the teachers union or teachers. Maybe a teacher secretly crashed the plane

A teacher didn’t teach him how to fly better. Teachers didn’t teach PEPCo how to shut off the electricity and ground the tower faster. Teachers didn’t teach firefighters how to rescue someone from live power lines without getting electrocuted. This is the sole fault of teachers!

No, you REPORT bullies, so their posts can be deleted. You don’t leave their hate unanswered. Someone else is bound to be swayed. This is Disinformation and Online Hate Management 101.

Another opinion lacking facts. Clearly there was a reason and now it is.

What are the facts then that support keeping the schools closed?

How DARE this man have an accident! How DARE he inconvenience MY day. Give me more facts.

You are reading far too much into it. People have accidents all the time and no one is blaming him. The call by MCPS to not have school because we lost power yesterday is nuts. They had the chance to make the right call this morning at 5 am when power was restored. Kids are out of school because of a power outage YESTERDAY.

How old are the kids and what do you think low income working parents are doing today?

Regardless of whether they took it lightly, they were awfully quick to jump to an unnecessary system-wide closure.

Nobody considers teachers to be "babysitters," but Randi Weingarten pretends this attitude is widespread among parents because mothers dare to work outside the home while kids are at school. But sure keep bashing parents and then complaining that parents are not "kind".

Why aren’t fathers stepping up to do childcare?

I am a parent impacted by the child care closure. No I don't think on this case they should open child care programs. It would not make any sense to say they are assessing the buildings for safety but go ahead and send your infant in. This is an unprecedented event, let's give them a day.

Why are you pretending child care burdens fall evenly on both parents. You know they don't but insist on blaming mothers for that.

The accident had nothing to do with teachers. But I bet the decision to close schools had everything to do with teachers. There's no rational explanation for the early decision to close all schools other than wanting to give teachers an extra day off.

He is an arrogant rich guy who thought he could fly his toy plane in rain and fog. I’ll bet he has alcohol in his blood test.

What a prick.

Lol you think you can just pier up schools at 1am and they are ready in the am.

I question if anybody like this ever had a real job in their whole life.
