Offices are closed too so the whole system is shut down. That's more than a regular snow day.

It would also make zero sense to have virtual school when the reason for closure is power outages.

Not all of us, including you have power outages.

True. But lots of teachers may live in lots of places that have power outages.

Huh?? What aren’t they just shutting down the schools that don’t have power??

Some of the kids might be in cold dark houses when they could be in warm schools

Ugh

Day after Thanksgiving weekend, nobody brought devices home, nobody planned, nobody expected this at all. It's a freak incident.

The mention of food services in the previous update has me wondering if some central distribution location lost power and a bunch of food for tomorrow's lunches got ruined.

Food deliveries for this week were done 1-2 weeks ago. It probably has more to do with bus depot outages.

Are the schools on generators or are those 2 week old deliveries festering?

backup generators should be running the fridge/ freezers. but some schools may lose a significant amount of food depending on how long this lasts.
honestly, the schools without power should be closed for 2 days, even if power is back on. the cafeteria managers need time to assess the damage and replace lost items to serve this week.

Why are you surprised? It’s transparently an excuse to give teachers an extra day off.

Wtf?! Why?!

This freaking sucks.

From the email: “ We recognize this is an inconvenience for our families. We appreciate your understanding. Impacts from the power outage will be monitored overnight. We will update the community if there is any change to this decision by 5:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28.”

WTF?

Not teachers, maybe illness. Grow up and appreciate your free child care.

WTF the email says they will update with any change to the decision by 5am. So I had to wait up til midnight for this foregone conclusion and now have to check at 5am to see if they changed their mind? Make a damn decision and stick to it, and don’t apologize for it.

And how will they blow dry their hair with the power out? Clearly they had no choice but to shut it down. How could someone possibly be expected to teach with damp hair? Or teach with hair that was washed more than 24 hours ago? That would be crazy!

Yeah what the?

That is only mentioned in one of three sources I received. So now I have to check at 5 am?

Glad you recognize the adverse turn of events. Please come back to comment tomorrow at 5am when we post another update to let you know “schools continue to be closed” just to tick you off.

It’s so rough to be a teacher— needing to briefly wake up at 5am to get your paid day off.

This was absolutely the reason given in original thread for why mcps needed to close. I kid you not.
