Amazing, because I went to Hopkins and currently live less than a mile away from campus, and have not seen that near the undergrad campus in a 20 year period. |

Well, it is your neighborhood…so do you think that could impact your perception? And that your perception could influence your willingness to live there?
Duh |
Your kid wasn't getting in anyway. |
We were there in July. I mean no disrespect. The campus was lovely. The neighborhood and shops within a few blocks were nice. But roughly 5 blocks away, everything changed dramatically. I’m from a metro area and don’t scare easily. It was bad. The odds of my kids getting in, to answer your snark, were as low as any other high performing, all around nice person. Low. But my first is happy at a similar reach. My second is applying to a “target” even tho his stats are better than his sisters. Because he likes it. And if he gets in, no matter that his stats could have earned him a lottery ticket, he will be grateful. |

1) Their foreign studies school is phenomenal
2) How many of the cross-admits cited apply for anything but pre-med or foreign studies 3) No sane kid outside of those majors or a lacrosse recruit chooses 4 years at the University of Chicago of Baltimore over the Harvard of the South. |
Wow Cornell just laid it all out there. More schools should follow in their footsteps. |
Baltimore is the murder capital of the world. |
Wait, are you talking about Hopkins? JHU undergrad is far less prestigious than Duke. |
Duke wins the lacrosse recruit battle over Hopkins too. |
I'm talking about in general, including undergrad. For undergrad specifically, JHU is currently #7, tied with UPenn, on USNWR. Duke is #10. |
| My kid wouldn't even apply. She wasn't fazed by safety of neighborhood but it is boring-- nothing to go to nearby. And she head on campus is boring. Kids senior to her in school said it wasn't fun. |
Who cares? We're still a much better academic and research institution than Duke. Makes no sense why parents would send their kids to Duke if they also got into Hopkins. Maybe their kids aren't serious about studying, because the only real knock on Hopkins is that it's hard and not everyone can handle it. The campus and its safety are fine and just fake problems being created by people who never actually went there. Duke is better for kids looking to get a degree while ensuring they have time to party 3+ times a week. |
Holy shit. No one cares that much about USNWR. If you think JHU being 3 spots ahead of Duke on USNWR makes it more prestigious than Duke for undergrad, I don't know what to tell you. Whatever helps you sleep at night I guess. But who am I to say anything, I only went to GW. |
+1 I don't actually know anyone who believes JHU is more prestigious for undergrad than Duke. |
Can someone explain what these numbers mean? |
