| Any truth to the rumor that both 28 VLC teams are heading towards breaking up this summer? If DCE got the best couple kids from both teams it would be a considerable improvement on the current 28 BLC team. (Responders feel free to skip the tired jabs at BLC) |
|
From what I have heard about DCE is that not all of the BLC team will transfer over. There will be other kids trying out from other teams. Also, the coaching for DCE will be changing.
The VLC situation comes from the management of the organization. Because it is not just the 2028 teams having issues….. The 2028 team has brought in new players and will still be around, but it will not be ready for Elite play in HOCO for next year. |
| Does anyone know if there are openings at VLC for poles for 2028 teams? |
| VLC has lost a several players and I am sure they are looking for all positions. |
| Dico is taking over the 2028s at VLC (was the coach of a very good 2024 VLC team). Sounds like they'll combine the 2 teams into 1 at the 2028 level. |
| Wasn’t he supposed to coach the 29 team? |
I think that was damage control from several strong players leaving. Those kids left anyway, so no reason to move him I guess. |
| Strong showing at Next Level tryouts. There were around 90 players (no exaggeration), including the full returning roster, plus helmets from MadLax, BLC, True, VLC, plus a couple of others. |
They'll need it, they had a bad spring season (3-4, missed playoffs), and a bad summer. Lost at PLC this weekend to BLC, whom they used to dominate, then lost again in the bracket game to FCA Upstate. Good squad but the results aren't there. |
and yet 90 kids want to join the team. they must be doing something right. |
Here's a thought, IMO roughly the same group of 75-100 kids are attending all three tryouts for Madlax, DC Express and Next Level. Of these kids there are incumbents who are safe and aren't moving from their current club, B team players from each club looking to move up, and A team players who are on the bubble who are playing the odds and looking to ensure they have option(s) if they don't get offered by their current team. Maybe a small percentage of guys coming down from Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard County looking to switch from Crabs/FCA/Hawks, and maybe a small percentage of reclasses. |
| good theory, but probably not true. does anybody know rough numbers and notable newcomers at DCE and MadLax tryouts? |
| NL ‘28 team is coached by the owner of the club who has a few other NL teams, runs the program, and is the head coach at DeMatha. There was talk of him giving up this team but I guess it’s not happening. |
Correct, he is a bit over-extended, but he is not giving up the 28 team. There is no perfect coach for a middle school travel team, because the ideal resume is exactly what the NL coach has, and that inevitably comes with conflicts. (the new DCE coaches have similar resumes and will probably have similar conflicts). One alternative would be to have a Dad coach, who would have great attendance, but they bring a bunch of other issues. Or you could have a kid in his 20's who also would have good attendance, but typically don't have the maturity to manage a bunch of adolescents effectively. considering the alternatives, the NL coach is a pretty good one to have. |
According to people on Back of the Cage, Madlax had 10-12 kids show up for tryouts. |
