2028 Boys Lacrosse

DC express will be next best, but far behind those two. If you are looking for college recruiting you need to be on one of those teams (unless VLC can pull off a competitive team, although that seems unlikely at this point).

There is a strong imbalance between offense and defensive talent for 28 in DC. Both NL and ML are deep at pole and d-middie. But both teams desperately need high end offensive talent so there are spots for any player like that.

Lack of offensive talent likely due to the lack of rec lax participation where coaches actually develop players rather than collect them

NL 2028 didn’t make the finals of HoCo this year so I don’t think I would say that they are the best every year, and all the local 2028 teams lost to the Hawks and to FCA by very similar margins. Who knows who will turn up from where to play with ML this summer.

NL and MadLax always have been well above any DC based teams. BLC is closing the gap but still catching up. VLC was not even in the top HoCo division. True was on par with NL and ML two when they brought their National players, but way behind when they played just their locals. The interesting question is how NL and MadLax will compete against each other in recruiting during the coming summer and fall. For both of their sake, I hope they can find some big, dominant attackmen who can score against quality defense. August tryouts will be interesting, but migration could happen at any time - just look at the 2026 class.

Hammers 2028 team played in HoCo this Spring (lost in the semis by 1) and will be picking up a few kids from VLC this summer (who are leaving the VLC A team) so will continue to get better. They practice across Loudoun County (Leesburg/South Riding/Aldie/Brambleton).

My kid is on hammers 2028 and this is absolutely not true. There is no room on the roster for anymore players. We already have too many as it is. Just like all the other clubs there will be evals at the end of the season for next years roster.

You must not be an experienced travel lacrosse parent, because the size of the roster has relatively little bearing on whether player(s) will be added. Rather it depends on how good the new player is. If he is good, they will add him at any time, carry an oversized roster until the next tryout cycle, and then trim the size of the team at that time.

You simply have no idea what you are talking about in terms of how the hammers 28 team is run. None. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

If Hammers is run differently than other teams (ie, they turn away strong players to protect incumbents), good luck retaining current good players.

In any given grade, the parents of that grade care plenty. nothing unusual about that. the funny thing is thinking that because YOU don't care, nobody should care.

If little Johnny is a stud athlete then he will be fine wherever he goes and plays club lax (I've heard a few coaches at the D1 level now say that they don't think kids should be playing travel until middle school because they want well-rounded athletes- and look at James Madison who is playing for a state title this weekend and has plenty of kids that aren't lac-first players).

DCE will be starting up a 28 team this year. Is there any reason to expect hat it wil be better than the current 27 team (which is abismal)

It will be better than the 27 team. But well behind NL and Madlax. I don’t think there is any reason to believe it will be much different than the BLC 28 team that has went something like 2-19 in HoCo the last 3 years. Might pick up some more out of the rotation NL and Madlax kids, but those kids won’t move the needle any.

What is interesting with DCE is how much better they get as their players age up. Some of that is likely taking other players from other programs but some of that is development for players within the program.

This is the year that the DCE 2027 team will need to pick up impact players from MadLax and Next Level at summer tryouts. Not players at the bottom of the roster chasing playing time, but difference makers who are fed up. NL has a lot of favoritism and a huge roster. ML has daddy ball culture and always under performs. We shall see if there is movement.

It really doesn't matter which team you play for as long it's Madlax, NL or DCE. Each of these teams produces college players and coaches will come to watch. However, the most important thing is that your kid MUST get on the field. If he is only playing in blowouts, it's time to move to another club. Also, HS matters. It's much easier to get recruited if you go to a school that plays in IAC/WCAC. If you go public, you need to be much more aggressive in reaching out to college coaches your junior year.

This is pretty accurate. Get your kid on the highest level team where he can get the most playing time. It can be difficult to find a spot with the ideal mix. As far as recruiting goes, yeah if your kid has dreams of playing in college I think IAC/WCAC makes it easier, but talent is talent and there's plenty of local public school kids who go D1 and high-end D3 so it's not impossible but as PP said you maybe have to take more initiative in reaching out to and getting in front of coaches.

Best bet for your kid as always is just to work hard and get better, if it's meant to be it will happen, if they don't play in college they'll still have a good time and they won't have any regrets around "man, if I had just worked harder I could've done this or that..."
