My son is competitive lacrosse player and we are looking for a 2028 program. Oh yeah, I live out in Loudoun County.
We would like someone that competes in the HOCO league during the spring. |

Last year in 28 Hoco
Elite: Madlax, Next Level and BLC. NL and BLC are both across the bridge, but some NOVA families make the trek. BLC might move to DC Express team at this age group, I know its somewhere around middle school but not positive. AAA: VLC, probably closes option, not sure where 28s practice but club uses fields in Herndon (Word of Grace) AA: Top Caliber (Fairfax, Madlax DMV A: VLC second team. You could also check with Hammers, Hard Lax, and The St James to see if they are fielding teams in that age group. We have found the best information on the respective clubs Instagram and Twitter pages. Traditional Websites for Madlax and NL seem to be the only semi and current ones. |
| Thanks for all of the information! |
| Many of the N.VA clubs Hardlax, VLC, Hammers, will also run winter clinics. You should do those to get a feel for the team. Many clubs add players for the Spring but most have official tryouts in August so no guarantee that you can join a team for this Spring if not already with a club. |
Not so sure about this. I’d say the VLC 2nd team would give first team a run for their money. VLC 1st team is so toxic exactly Zero players accepted offers to move up from 2nd to 1st. Cant imagine the first team is long for this life. |

Not sure that the second VLC team played in the A division of HOCO last year?
No statements were made about the strength of either team, just a statement of facts. |
What does it matter. Speaks volumes that the A team gave out offers that were refused in favor of the B team. As for Hoco of last year, at that time the kids were still dividend between historical Cavs and historical VLC (which was basically full of the better Cavs players to begin with) |
Hammers 28 will be playing in HoCo most likely. HardLax is done. The VLC situation is 100% accurate (a couple of the 1st team kids came over to Hammers over the summer). Word of Grace was sold to a data center company so not sure how that effects practices (VLC teams mostly practiced at Dominion in the Fall except for a couple of the youngest age groups that are at WoG). |
The VLC B team has been together for several years as Cavs B team and has fierce loyalty to the coach, who also transitioned over. I would say the refusal of the offer for the A team was more aligned with that loyalty and a desire to play with friends on the team. The VLC A team did lose a couple of players to MadLax (good luck, and they were the toxic parents so there should be a good culture fit) and Hammers. That happens to every team, every year, for lots of different reasons. They also gained a couple of players. |
Why is the Madlax 2028 team toxic? Do you personally know something there? |
| re Madlax 28, as with all comments on this board, direct shot at the owner, who is the head coach of the 2028 team. |
But do you have any direct knowledge of toxic culture specifically with that team? |
| The coach uses classic negative coaching techniques, tearing players down, pulling them out of games when they make mistakes, and so forth. That is a fact . Is that style of coaching "toxic"? that is an opinion for each family to decide. It is not for me, and thus none of my sons are in that program, but a lot of families want it for their sons. To each his own. |
| MadLax is great if winning HoCo and tournaments when your son is 11 years old is important to you. By middle school, they lose all of their friends layers who have good shots at D1 to other programs since their strength isn’t in getting their older boys into great college programs. |
