Baltimore: Is it safe to walk to the Edgar Allan Poe house and museum from the Inner Harbor?

In the midtown area, there is Hampden, Remington, and Station North. The inner Harbor is just not a big attraction anymore with the buildings empty— people just hang out in different parts of the city these days but I would say the restaurant/going out scene in the city is better than it was 10 years ago. I am looking forward to the redevelopment of Harbor Place, going to be interesting to see its next iteration.

Lol, no they are not! What a load of crock, ie. the doctor shot after parking his car but he was lucky his friends were waiting in the ER to save his life! If it were safe it the slightest way, Hopkins would not be lobbying to put their own police force in place. Baltimore, including the neighborhoods you mentioned, ie. the mother pistol whipped in broad daylight while walking her infant just for shits and giggles by three black teenagers, are not any safe. Your post is very misleading. My dentist has a long time office in Canton and is now closing the location and moving to a location in Washington/ Popular Hill in NW Baltimore because they have lost so many clients do the crime and threat of crime it's not feasible to stay in business any longer. It’s sad that Baltimore isn’t safe to visit. We used to enjoy Inner Harbor, Fells Pt, Little Italy…etc. Baltimore has always had issues, but tourist areas used to be OK. Other than an occasional O’s game, I avoid Baltimore. When the city gets serious about fixing its crime, I will return.

To OP, don’t walk to the Poe House. We drove there about twenty years ago. The neighborhood wasn’t the best, but felt relatively safe visiting the house since the Baltimore Police kept a cruiser parked outside during the museum operating hours. That kind of tells you all you need to know about the neighborhood.

It would be fine to walk there during the day. As in any city you need to have situational awareness. The inner harbor is not dangerous at all during the day for visitors. Baltimore is a great city and has ten thousand times more character than soulless DC

UVA has their own police force as do most urban schools.

I agree that Baltimore has way more character and a better vibe than DC. DC seems so sterile. I disagree about walking to Poe House….wouldn’t recommend.

Friend of a friend witnessed a shooting in broad daylight at the Inner Harbor. Granted there aren’t a lot of shootings at the Harbor, it’s still reason for concern. It has nothing to do with race. It’s all about my safety.

In every one of these comments about the Poe house, neighborhood residents simply helped the apparent tourist find it. Otherwise, the resident is accused of doing nothing more than being outside on the sidewalk. SMH.

Crime against tourists is pretty much nonexistent in Baltimore as is the case in most US cities.

I’m sure most Baltimore residents are fine. Unfortunately, there are small factions in the city that have taken lawlessness to a new level. The acts of a small group have brought down the whole city. It’s sad.

About 15 years ago, I was riding the Light Rail to BWI airport and was chatting with two Black cops who were also in the car. When I told them I had just moved to Baltimore from DC, their reaction was "DC! That place is so unsafe! Good thing you moved to Balto."

Meanwhile, everyone in DC's reaction to my telling them I was moving to Bawlmer was "OMG, that city is so unsafe!"
