#facts. I knew she was lying the whole time. I've been a prosecutor my entire career - everything about her and her story was completely unbelievable. I also love the way white women love to paint minorities as the perpetrators when they make these stories up.

Thanks for bringing race - unprompted and in a way that makes no sense - into this!

The construction of race is material in this case. If I, a black woman, were to claim that two white women had kidnapped me, I would probably be committed to an insane asylum. In this country women of color tend to be cast as kidnappers and white women as potential victims. We are assumed to be likely deviants and they are objects of desire whose innocence (Susan Green, anyone?) is presumed. What possible motive could two Hispanic women have for such a kidnapping?

Thank you PP for this perfect response.

Yes 100%

You mean Susan Smith?

Even if the husband knew about it, it's too much for him and the kids to put mom away. Also, the humiliation.
She has to pay restitution and that means the husband and kids may need to sell their home and live differently. And all this for what?! You were bored in your marriage? You can't just get a divorce? How do you explain that to the kids?

I've seen her pictures on mag covers. She seems to love the attention. I knew she was fake. She out herself.

They just did a Dateline on this and it was really good. Lots of messed up stuff in there.

Really? Like the Duke Lacrosse case?
If as a small woman, 6 ft 200 lb guys are threatening to shove a broomstick up you, fear might make you leave even if said guys had you drink. If having a dui then threatens to have your kids taken away and getting raped by broomstick was in your brain, you might lie to keep your kids. While what Crystal did was wrong, it seemed fear-based, not bigotry based.

The "You're Wrong About" podcast sums this case up really well in my opinion. The guest says more than once, "there are really no sympathetic people here." Despite the fact that the Duke Lacrosse team was exonerated, they were some vile POSs. They can be innocent of that crime, and the victim of a seriously messed up woman, and also beyond horrible human beings. Both of those are true.

I saw it and I still don’t understand WHY she left. Did she need a break? And she abused herself to cover it up rather than say she needs a break? There was no relationship with the Ex during that time.

PP here. Yeah, my husband and I watched it and finished with, "WTH was it all FOR?!" But it was good in that I'm not sure the husband was in on it at all. I'm not sure she even knows why she did it.

This story is so old and tired. Who cares now?

Just revived in news because she pled guilty to all charges.

Some of the papers filed by her husband have been published. Lawyers of DCUM, does he have a good shot at full custody?

She willfully abandoned her children, lied to federal law enforcement, and defrauded the state. In addition to having a conviction on her record now that she has plead guilty. I'd say she's toast.

Hells yes - thank you to the husband for pointing this out.

The children have mow learned that their mother lied to them about he disappearance, lied to them about how she was abused by two Hispanic women, and led to them about her arrest. The fact that their mother lied to therm on such a major issue is something they, and I,are having a hard time dealing with. We, both children and I, need time to recover and stabilize...

Yeah the why in this case isn't obvious. It doesn't appear that she had a sexual relationship with the high school friend who helped her. Yes, it's possible he lied when he said they didn't have a romantic relationship, but he admitted to everything else so I don't see any reason why he would lie about that. And it only makes him look weirder that there was no romance.

The bruising and the branding seemed so over the top and given her past history of self harm, it makes me wonder if somehow this was what was fueling her. Regardless, she has some serious psychological issues.
