Thanks for bringing race - unprompted and in a way that makes no sense - into this!

Exactly. And isn't true either.

She was a SAHM at the time with husband working at Best Buy so not a princess life. Idk why the kids were in daycare though.

I remember seeing Dateline or 20/20 type of show about this. It was very obvious that she faked it. From watching the interviews, I got the impression that her husband knew and kept the lie going to cover for her. He also seemed gay to me. Weird situation all around!

She was in her early 30s when she faked her disappearance. I remember that one of the cops/investigators remarked that she was a bit, ah, long in the tooth to be a human trafficking victim. He didn’t phrase it like that, but he did say that her age made the case extremely odd.

I think husband and cops knew all along. It probably took them some time to get all the evidence they needed. I’ll bet they were watching her for a long time. Maybe she’s up to other things, too, and they wanted to take their time to watch her.

I just went back and read the 2016 thread about her. Lots of debate then about whether it was a hoax. I cannot believe anyone thought it was real. I am glad they brought charges.

Pre-covid days. Take me back!!!

Not just a liar but a thief, happily receiving $30k from the victims compensation fund until 2021!

The construction of race is material in this case. If I, a black woman, were to claim that two white women had kidnapped me, I would probably be committed to an insane asylum. In this country women of color tend to be cast as kidnappers and white women as potential victims. We are assumed to be likely deviants and they are objects of desire whose innocence (Susan Green, anyone?) is presumed. What possible motive could two Hispanic women have for such a kidnapping?

I wonder if she is still married. The articles I saw didn't mention it.

Gender makes a difference. The Duke case was about a dozen large athletic frat boys against one woman. The PPs reference was woman to woman.
