Bipartisan Virginia legislature votes to end mask mandates alongside Governor Youngkin

The House of Delegates' Committee on Education will be hearing the bill tomorrow (Friday) morning. I read through how the bill moves through the chambers. I believe it will need to be read on three different days in the House of Delegates. So my guess is the earliest it would land on Youngkin's desk would be late Wednesday or Thursday. With the emergency clause added, both chambers would have to vote again - so Thursday or Friday. I've read reports that it the earliest it would go into law would be Feb 21st, which makes sense.

Now, how do we get Chap Peterson thrown out of office? 10% to recall him right?

Funny - you had no problem when Democrats like Peterson were sponsoring legislation to force schools statewide to remain open regardless of rising cases. Now its masks - its an issue?

I absolutely had a problem. Difference is Petersen is my senator. I can actually do something about him.

I am gobsmacked by Youngkin's missteps, though. What a rank amateur who has surrounded himself by clowns.

Actually I'd say he's winning. He came out against school mask mandates within days of taking office. And now a new bill and amendment with BIPARTISAN SUPPORT is passing lightening fast in his state assembly supporting his ban on masks. Youngkin is looking prescient and proactive. Unlike someone else in a white house that is exactly...18 miles from his family farm. The Biden team could take some lessons on supporting effective and needed policies not just wishlists which get no support across the aisle.

Agree completely!

I'm waiting anxiously with you. I keep hearing two weeks? So, so happy and relieved.

Exactly! Republicans were stupidly fighting masks and vaccines when vax rates were still low, when hospitalizations and deaths were sky high. It didn't make sense then. But now that a lot more Americans are vaccinated, now that the hospitalizations and deaths are dropping it is safer to lessen restrictions and mandates. It's mind boggling that Republicans don't seem to understand any of that.

LOL Its not GOP school boards and states refusing to lessen restrictions and mandates. Wow. The audacity.

You mean, in the middle of a surge?

No, they didn’t do that because they aren’t dumb AF.

I think this law is also invalid because it goes against the VA constitution— even chap said it usurps the authority of school boards.

An overreach now signed into law. Suck it hater.

I think someone needs to step in to sue to stop implementation until proper studies are made on effects of such a law. I’m sure that there’s a sympathetic judge somewhere who’s willing to grant an emergency injunction.

May I ask you something in all seriousness? Why do you care so much about this?

This is the problem with Youngkin voters -- no civility or common decency. They scream, they yell and they spread hate. This was a response to a post expressing a substantive objection to the EO and it's just name calling and vitriol.

And by the way, the law might also be overreach since it goes against the VA constitution.

Nothing like big government and executive power to override local decision-making, is there Republicans?

Hey - you loved that big government intervention when they overrode local school boards and forced in-person learning regardless of case numbers. Don’t act persnickety about it now.

Whether you like him or this law, he did swiftly deliver on this campaign promise. More than you can say for many these days.

I didn’t vote for him and I think focusing on this law was not a good use of time, but I’ll give him credit as an Exec. for getting it accomplished.

You want civility or decency when your campaign literally tried to frame Youngkin as a white supremacist supporter four months ago? Buzz off.
