Whoopi says the Holocaust was not about race

And they killed 6m Jewish people in concentration camps, by far the majority of victims.

My guess is Whoopi was viewing the history through a lens of what SHE considers to be "white" people today. But she should have considered the history better and not made the comment. It was very inappropriate to me as it seemed to downplay the horror of the holocaust.

Nope.

Was there another group constituting 6m people who were murdered? Nope.

You may be thinking in the aggregate - the total of all other people.

Dp here. The statement wasn’t that there was another group of people that large, it was that the 6 million Jews killed were by far the majority of those killed. Generally speaking, there an understanding that approximately 12 million people died in the Holocaust, so while Jews were the largest targeted group, they were not necessarily the “vast majority” of its victims.

The 6m +6m = 12m fact speaks for itself. you can spin it, rank it, reframe it, deny it, lie about it, exaggerate it, argue that half of a number is a majority, whatever you want, that’s on you.

Then how are people able to convert?

They’re not true Jews, jokes on them. No Jewish mother blood, not Jewish. Duh.

I’ll be sure to tell my friend who converted for her husband and who plan to raise their children in the faith. Converting isn’t real since it’s not a religion and instead a race

Oh no rush, she’s probably heard and read that 100 times by now.

I think you’re right. I don’t think she was trying to downplay the Holocaust, but that’s how it came across. She made an ass out of herself and should apologize.

She might view Jews as white - many do see them as white in modern times. But it doesn't matter.

The Holocaust was about killing Jews (and others) and to lose sight of that or to say otherwise is unacceptable. It isn't just about hate, it was about specifically hating Jews.

Race is NOT skin color.

Yes, you can be racially (shared ancestry) Jewish and not be racially European/Caucasian.

I can prove it because I took an Ancestry DNA and a 23&me DNA test and both say that I am 100% Ashkenazi Jewish -- I am 0% European. I am not English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, etc -- I am Jewish. That is my race.

Also, my religion is NOT Jewish because I am religiously an Atheist.

But my entire family was all slaughtered in the Holocaust for being Jewish so obviously my race is Jewish, too.

Well I have a white friend who married an African American and raise their children in the African American culture (Kwanzaa, etc). That happens all the time with different races. It's called an interracial relationship.

Is she trying to pass for black? Did she convert to black?

I’m African American aka black and Kwanzaa isn’t part of my culture or any black people I know.

Great point. The ashkenazai deny their European heritage despite having lived in Europe and cooking and eating all the same foods but denying that they’re the same recipes.

Seconds point, you’re Jewish and you know it. Bloodline religion, not an elective sacrament religion to practice. Muslim and Jews have the automatic bloodline thing going for them. Like auto renewal feature for your offspring.

Judaism is not a race. You know who called it a race? Hitler. Judaism is a religion and arguably an ethnicity, not a race. I don’t get why people are upset at Whoopi but I don’t watch The view.

I am a Serb. Many of you hate Serbs, due to propaganda. All Serbs, not just those convicted of crimes in the 90s.
I had to listen to one of my "white" colleague's rant about a Serbian guy "friend" who was darker and how his wife who is Serbian looks totally Asian. And how he doesn't know if it is common for Serbs to be OCD and look dark and Asian.
And how is a curator at the "different race" museum... in DC!
