Post HERE with any information about the plan for red schools

The school sent an email that said rapid test kids are being sent home with students tomorrow (Monday if it’s a snow day), and they’re supposed to test and report back.

Errr I meant kits. Not kids!

Kids at our es were told to make sure to take all of their belongings home today. Not a great sign. The positivity rate is almost 8%.

Red elementary school sent home books today for the next novel study, which is supposed to start at the beginning of Q3 according to teacher.

Got a great, very informative email from the principal of our yellow school this afternoon saying we’d know at 7:00pm tonight but that she is preparing for all circumstances and will communicate as much as possible. It didn’t say anything I didn’t already know/assume, but the act of communicating was really lovely.

Zero information whatsoever from our other (red) school.

Yellow school kid came home with all of her school materials. Sigh.

Snow.

We were told to bring home chrome books etc just in case.

any news from the red schools?

We’re one of the 11 “original red” schools. We just got a long letter about picking up 2 rapid tests at the school tomorrow. We’re supposed to test the kid twice over the weekend and report positive results to the school.

Do you have any idea why your school went virtual and the other 115 didn’t?

No, but we had a big surge of cases just before break. Kids at school were talking a lot about siblings who had covid and DC knows of at least two teachers currently out sick with covid.

Makes sense. With all the other ES and MS in red, MCPS is probably desperate to reopen early the ones that closed. As it stands, they violated their own 5% rules by not shutting the others down.

Such a waste of resources not to keep the tests for kids with fevers and coughs at school. Wow. :wow:

I'm wondering if they haven't scrapped the color-coding all together, because it's now ALL red, and they still don't plan on closing system-wide.

The 24hr new case count went out at 7pm, but still waiting for their 24hr color chart with positivity percentage.

I'm really just interested in if anyone gets any actual info on what will happen to the newly-red schools (or all of them.) I'm sure we'll eventually get some info, but this site has been a good source for early intel in the past.

Thanks!

OP here. It is amazing and depressing how quickly this thread derailed. The people that want to debate and insult each other have about a dozen other threads to do that in. Sigh.

I know there will not be anything broadly communicated until 7:00. But often individual schools hear something, or some teacher/staff is willing to share some early heads up communications.

I guess I'll just be patient.

Don Quixote had better luck tilting at windmills! LOL

I'm genuinely confused. Was the 7pm announcement about what's happening with the red schools just that the school start is being delayed by 2 hours? Or is there more info coming tonight for the red schools?

No one knows for sure, but Caitlynn Peetz thinks there's more coming: https://mobile.twitter.com/CaitlynnPeetz14/status/1479250025834242050
