Post HERE with any information about the plan for red schools

Anonymous
Our principal sent out a message last night saying there would be school as usual today, and he was waiting for further information from his director.

He’ll let us know as soon as he hears anything, but they’re making contingency plans for virtual in the event that’s the directive from central office and the health department.

(Ours is one of the red schools.)

No official information, but the teachers are sending out zoom links. That seems like a sign.

Our school sent out zoom links a while ago and has them posted on the website. Common sense is to shut everything down but who knows what they will do.

No, common sense says that we do NOT shut down schools when everything else remains open.

Common sense says we keep kids in school since Covid is and always has been very low risk for kids.

Common sense says that kids don’t learn as well virtually so in person school should be a priority.

Alright — this thread is not for ranting. Many of us have differing views and risk tolerances. Stress for all parents is very high (sips adult beverage ….way too early in the day). Just post relevant info on this topic please!

Got a great, very informative email from the principal of our yellow school this afternoon saying we’d know at 7:00pm tonight but that she is preparing for all circumstances and will communicate as much as possible. It didn’t say anything I didn’t already know/assume, but the act of communicating was really lovely.

Zero information whatsoever from our other (red) school.

Yellow school kid came home with all of her school materials. Sigh.

Not sure why this matters because if a school is moving to virtual you’ll hear about it. But here goes from our principal:

Principals are not the ones to determine if their school will shift to virtual instruction. The Department of Health and Human Services is working directly alongside senior MCPS leadership to analyze this data to make an informed decision. The following metrics are being utilized to determine whether a school will move to the virtual learning platform:

The number of students testing positive.
The number of staff testing positive.
The number of students in quarantine.
The number of staff at the school out due to COVID-related absences.
The level of spread of the virus in the school and community.

Collaborations are happening in real-time as situation is fluid. A school shifting to the red zone does not automatically result in a move to the virtual learning platform. The collaboration with HHS regarding the outlined metrics and a robust testing plan will all be part of the decision-making process regarding when and if a school will move to the virtual learning platform.

Our 4th grader at a red school came home just now with 8 textbools/books and a chromebook. They are definitely preparing. If not tomorrow, then Monday.

That is preparation not an indication that virtual will happen the next day. That way in they have to switch or call a virtual day instead of snow kids have the necessary materials.

Not true. Schools know and many virtual. Not announcing before MCPS.

Thanks for this!

(It doesn't matter, but just eager to know. The same way people ask about college acceptances and look for any intel on whether they are likely to get offered a job, etc.)
