If you don’t want your kids to lean then don’t cry when they don’t learn anything.

This is a valid point.

People on the one hand complain about “prepping” and privilege and then on the other don’t understand that it’s the margins that make the difference.

Tomorrow, I will have my kid read a book cover to cover. Not Tolstoy but at least 250 pages of whatever they want. If your kid is playing video games all day, maybe that might explain the “achievement gap”.

That’s nice. My magnet grad/ college honor student and magnet HS student will be vegging out all day on the TV set together. I’m fine with that. They’ve both been working hard over the break- and the unexpected day off for my younger one is a welcome surprise.

What they should do is have all students log in for
A virtual day due to snow. There should never be a snow day
Ever again. Everyone has a chrome book at home with them.

MCPS is a joke. And honestly their should never be a closure due to snow. It’s going to snow, then report to work 2 hours early to be ready. Get the busses on the road an hour early. To be waiting at the stops.

Northern states have this down to a science, no reason this county can’t too.

You sound like the most miserable parent ever. I feel sorry for you kids who will probably have to study and do workbooks on their first snow day of the year.

Ok, troll. Simmer down. On some other thread you’d have been telling PP she / he was lazy and didn’t like parenting and should use workbooks to “supplement”. Now she / he is the problem. M’kay. Go back to your bridge.

Good for you. Let me guess you are a Bethesda parent. I’m letting my kids relax and have fun. They are so excited right now.

MCPS should have made this call hours ago like the other school districts

First, gonna have to call you out as a troll. No one cheering on a “fake” snow day is also a parent of a kid, who like mine, suffered learning loss over the pandemic. I swear, the MCPS teachers Union must have a troll farm working these threads because between the “you just want day care” and the “you’ll just have paras watching your kids” and the “teachers will die in droves” the same old crap keeps popping up and it’s absolute nonsense, flying in the face of all of the evidence and data.

You seem to have missed the PP’s sarcasm.

No, it shouldn’t have. They waited for more information - knowing that a premature call would be confusing to parents and invite mob hysteria from parents. Glad they made the call tonight and appreciate they didn’t rush to a decision.

NP, parent of two kids and I am cheering on the snow day. Virtual wasn't great, but kids are catching up and it will all be fine. They worked hard this fall and we are all excited for snow. Kids will do a mix of relaxing and some work, and we will all take off a few hours for the local sledding hill. That is what snow days are for and what my vacation leave was meant for. Relax and make some memories.

It’s hilarious that you think there’s actually going to snow on the ground to sled on. Today was 60 degrees; snow is not sticking.

Golf claps for sanctimoniously answering a question you weren’t asked. And your reading comprehension. Enjoy the snow day and make some memories using the vacation leave in a way it was meant for.

I’m glad. My kid tested negative on home test but we couldn’t get PCR until tomorrow, and we traveled to area with very high COVID rate. Glad kid will miss one less day of school while awaiting results of PCR.

Assuming that they actually do go the the local sledding hill and try to sled, I’m already laughing at the muddy mess they will experience.
