If you don’t want your kids to lean then don’t cry when they don’t learn anything.

First, gonna have to call you out as a troll. No one cheering on a “fake” snow day is also a parent of a kid, who like mine, suffered learning loss over the pandemic. I swear, the MCPS teachers Union must have a troll farm working these threads because between the “you just want day care” and the “you’ll just have paras watching your kids” and the “teachers will die in droves” the same old crap keeps popping up and it’s absolute nonsense, flying in the face of all of the evidence and data.

NP, parent of two kids and I am cheering on the snow day. Virtual wasn't great, but kids are catching up and it will all be fine. They worked hard this fall and we are all excited for snow. Kids will do a mix of relaxing and some work, and we will all take off a few hours for the local sledding hill. That is what snow days are for and what my vacation leave was meant for. Relax and make some memories.

It’s hilarious that you think there’s actually going to snow on the ground to sled on. Today was 60 degrees; snow is not sticking.

Well, it's at least a few inches here on the roads, 4-5 inches on the grass. Should be enough for sledding.

Where are you? In Germantown the roads and sidewalks have mostly cleared themselves and there’s patchy snow about 1” deep creating a sloppy mess. The ground was warm enough to melt the bottom layer of snow, so there’s a thin layer of snow over mud.

I’m in Olney. The kids are sledding down the hill in our yard. It’s all snow here and no mud to be seen.

I had a school-bus-sized mail truck stuck on my street for 3 hours before the monster tow truck pulled it up.

For once, downcounty got more snow. Probably a good 5 inches in Silver Spring. Trust us, there have been plenty of times MCPS closed/delayed for snow in Germantown/Damascus when we literally had nothing down here. Tables have turned this time!

+1 In Olney too and there is more than enough snow for sledding. There are tons of kids sledding and there is plenty of stick-age, not sloppy.

Same, except I’m in Rockville. I was downstairs at 6 and there was barely a dusting of snow. Now my backyard looks like a winter wonderland. The roads haven’t been plowed and the snow is showing no signs of letting up. A day like this would always have been a snow day.

Don’t be so dramatic. There’s 2 inches of slush on the ground.

MCPS has always closed when there is 2 inches of slush on the ground.

That stuff is the worst for driving anyway because it will turn into a sheet of ice.

Not today. Not when it is this warm out.

And I agree it is consistent with MCPS’s past behavior to close schools today. But it was silly in the past and it is silly now.

This warm out? It's below freezing in the entire county, as far as I can tell.

Lol, yeah it's pretty rich that the upcounty folks are complaining about the closure.....
