Ward 6 resident here. Charles Allen panders too much to people soft on crime. His solution? Violence interrupters. What are those? They’re basically ex-cons strategically hired and placed in communities to try and stop violence by talking to those most likely to commit violence before it happens. Do they work? No. Most studies show they don’t reduce crime and may exacerbate it.
Why is he doing it? Because I hate the word, but “woke” pressure to use a more holistic, caring approach to crime, so as not to uproot community members and disrupt families, is being implemented. What else is he doing? He is a big proposed of the Youth Rehabilitation Act and second chance law. Those laws let violent criminals out of jail early. They reduce sentence lengths. Also, he’s done nothing to dissuade teens from robbing people. The city is very lenient on that and it’s basically catch and release. I would love to vote for someone tougher. Honestly, even Denise Krepp if she ran. She tried to subpoena crime records from DOJ for years, but appears to have been stymied at every turn. I’m sick of politicians pandering to violent elements at the expense of tax paying citizens who contribute greatly to the tax base. |
Fellow Ward 6 resident. Couldn't agree more. |
| I would protest vote for Denise and this point and I don’t even like her. |
It’s weird how offended some people are, at least from comments I’ve seen on the New Hill East Facebook group page, about her seemingly vigilant attitude towards crime. Her stance is essentially, punish those who commit crime. I agree with that. I’m sorry if people who mug others go to jail. That’s life. If you don’t arrest criminals, what is the incentive for people not to commit crime? Denise was particularly aggressive in trying to obtain DOJ crime stats after that woman was raped and attacked in her home in SE with her kids at home. I think the guy who did this terrible act was a product of the Youth Rehabilitation Act of which Charles Allen was a proponent. I like DC, but I am getting fed up with this liberal, self-flagellating approach to addressing rising crime. Naysayers will add annoying comments like: “this is nothing! Go to the suburbs! You should have seen it in 1990!!!!” I did see it. It was bad. Why do we want to return to that? |
Totally agree with all of this. I would vote for Denise if she ran against Allen but they're trying to push her house out of ward 6. Seems like suspiciously good timing for Allen. I am fed up with coddling woke activists who think "prisons don't work". Yeah they do, we need to take violent people off the street and show them there are consequences. |

I have no idea what PP is prattling on about.
Back to CM Allen. There were FOUR armed car jackings last night and Allen hasn’t said a peep. |
What’s he supposed to say? DC is a big city. 680,000 people live here. That means 679,996 of them DIDN’T get car jacked yesterday. I call that acceptable. Far more acceptable than racist cops declaring war on young BIPOC. |
Black people are affected by violent criminals far more than police and they know that. That's why there's now a non-progressive Black mayor in NYC. White progressives look at stats and say "oh, too many Black people arrested" then release violent criminals or refuse to prosecute. Guess which communities these criminals regularly target? Stop voting for white progressives. |
I’m always amazed that the criminals have a more powerful advocacy lobby than victims. |
Seriously. Enough with this ridiculous hyperbole with this "racist cops declaring war on young BIPOC" nonsense. Do you know who commits the vast majority of violent crime in our city? Young BIPOC. |
He is supposed to reassure the public and, perhaps, propose a crack down on crime rather than airy fairy, feel good weak sauce “violence interruptors”, Youth rehabilitation act, restorative justice super lax bs that perpetuates crime. I’m sorry it fcks up some folks’ lives when they’re dad gets arrested. I’m tired of all this hand wringing weak nonsense. Fking do something. Stop and frisk. Kick open some doors. Do what it takes to subdue crime. Stop tying the police’s hands. All this new age liberal woke policing is going to lead to Republican victories, at least nationally, and an overcorrection to getting tough on crime as a response to the weak stuff in major liberal cities. People want to be safe. |
Why are our only two choices racist cops or getting car jacked? |
What’s the racial makeup of the dc police force? |
| Has Denise even expressed an interest in running? |
