There are not the neighbors of anyone in DC. These are largely people coming in from Maryland. |
I agree with the above with regards to certain populations that some folks in this neighborhood love to complain about. Lots of down on their luck people in my neighborhood who have been impacted by racism their whole lives and it's so baked into everything. Kids who don't feel they have options, folks with inadequate access to healthcare, lots of people with mental health issues related to poverty and racism, which are so intertwined in our community. But when people talk about crime in this neighborhood, some of us are not actually talking about any of that. Like one of my big issues is that there is still quite a bit of drug traffic on my block and on a nearby corner, and 90% of the buyers have out-of-state plates and I just have no tolerance for that kind of activity. I don't want the young kids getting caught up in that drug activity to get hauled into jail, but there is absolutely no reason for that kind of open drug traffic to be happening anywhere. When I see (which I do, all the time) I also feel confident there are guns in the vicinity, and it stresses me out as a parent. That's how shootings happen. I think we need a combination of more police presence in these areas to deter the drug trade, plus a lot more community outreach for these young kids who need more options. I'm not in favor of more arrests but I don't think we should just turn a blind eye to what is happening or act like it is fine. It is not fine. |
LOL This city has been run by black Democrats for DECADES. They are the "system" you are indicting here. And victims of violent crimes like carjacking are in no way responsible for their victimization. Shame on you. |
Black folks are also completely fed up with the crime too, FWIW. https://twitter.com/realtimenews10/status/1465871077675085825?s=21 |
Really? I grew up in a lesser resourced community (I'm white btw) and certainly did not enjoy any privilege that you so allege others have enjoyed. Unless you want to factor in the fact that I was one of few white families in that community and we were the benefactors of racism at every corner. Regardless, I never once stole or violated someone else's personal space or property because I was raised not to do so and I knew my parents would swiftly punish me. Violating other people and the product of their hard work is not a little alleged crime, those people worked hard for what they have and it is not an invitation for ill behaved people to come and take it. Stop making excuses for these deliquents, you are the problem. |
Then maybe the black folk should stand up and do something about it. |
I know they’re asking the mayor and Council to do something. |
| Another day of crime in Ward 6 and Allen sends out a community update that doesn’t even mention it. |
Please. You’re white and you fully benefit from white privilege every damn day in America. And you don’t know what oppression feels like because you’ve never experienced it. Systemic white racism is the issue here, but you can’t even see it right in front of you. And you’re part of it whether you acknowledge it or not. |
The casual drug traffic has come up around my block recently too. What can we do about this? Neighbors have talked to the police and they know its happening but they don't do anything. And this is close to where there have been recent shootings. Out of state cars drive up. Lots of handshaking through the window and then drive off. Recently a couple young kids have joined the crowed of people standing around which makes me even more sad. |
Oh look! The "systemic white racism makes people commit crime" troll is here! Go away |
Charles, is that you? |

Another armed carjacking in hill east.

There were four carjackings in one hour yesterday. Good lord. And it was 65 degrees, so Allen cannot use his laughable "they were just cold" defense. https://twitter.com/RealTimeNews10/status/1466544818914570244 |
