Crime on the hill - Charles Allen has got to go

Please stop describing your neighbors, your your fellow human beings, as “criminals.”

These are PEOPLE!

And no one wants to commit a so-called crime. Rather, these people come from lesser-resourced communities where they never enjoyed the privilege you probably had from birth.

Locking them up for every little alleged crime is not the answer.

Violent muggings, armed car jackings and shootings are not every little crime.

You are part of the problem.

Many of us did grow up poor, or "lesser-resourced," if you prefer. We didn't steal or shove illegal guns in people's faces or carjack. Just stop with the excuse making for dangerous people who need to be off the streets and away from the law abiding. Especially since they tend to prey on their own communities!

And armed robbery, assault, etc. are not "little" crimes. They are serious crimes and the perps deserve to be punished for them.

This is a troll. Please, for the sake of a half-intelligent discussion, disregard.

This kind of idiot is why crime will continue to rise and nothing will happen. These are Allen’s constituents. Don’t like daytime armed carjackings in your neighborhood? Well, you must be a delicate snowflake.

You do not understand the school-to-prison pipeline.

No one gets up in the morning and says to themselves “I want to be a criminal. I should go steal a car.”

These are young people of color who are desperately misunderstood by people who’ve they’ve been told their whole lives are better than them because their skin is white. Do you blame them for lashing out?

They need love and they need you to acknowledge your part in the system that put them where they are. Until you are willing to admit that, nothing changes. If you want to know why people get carjacked, look in a mirror. You’re why.

This is parody, right?

Allen has spent weeks blathering about not diluting minority voters' rights in the redistricting process, yet his ward is going to be getting a whole lot whiter. Plus, a possible primary opponent is going away.

Nothing fishy about that at all.

This is a ludicrous suggestion. Just … all of it.

But it would be great if Allen had a real challenger. I would donate to that campaign, if only to send Allen a message.

It’s not just crime. Traffic violence is also out of control, and Allen isn’t doing anything about that either. Just keeps talking about VisionZero legislation that was passed long ago and clearly hasn’t helped at all.

This attitude and your low expectations is why people get carjacked. If the criminals were in prison, they couldn't carjack. If there were consequences to teenagers doing violent things, maybe they wouldn't do them. Maybe they'd stay in school instead. You know, that thing we taxpayers fund at one of the highest spending per pupil rates in the entire country. The lack of consequences is well-known. Until you are willing to admit that, nothing changes.

Anonymous wrote:Don't forget Allen is the guy who believes people's brains are not fully developed until age 25 and thus, cannot possibly be held responsible for decisions to murder or maim until that ripe age. He has pushed for extremely lenient sentencing for those under 25, and asked for early removal from incarceration while demanding that judges NOT have access to the criminal's actual crime when they're deciding who to release early (including violent rapists).

I've had emails back and forth with him, and he is a petty idiot who has no wish to truly engage with those holding different opinions. As someone who used to work in politics, I was kind of stunned at what an amateur he is when it comes to communicating with constituents. I know it's just the city level, but yikes.

Allen is a criminal apologist who doesn't give a damn about innocent victims. Those who support him at this point need to do some self evaluation.

No one said that. It is not a thing that gets said in actual life in our progressive city. They didn't hear it in their black-run school district, and they didn't hear it from their black-run city government. Come on!
