I’m not the pp you are quoting, but I have mentioned Notre Dame in this thread. Very telling that you find someone explaining a faith to be “picking fights.” |
Explaining? You're passing judgment on everyone. |
Hmmm... like the person who claimed I am “talking out of my ass?” |
Conservative Catholics often have issues with the more liberal Jesuits. |
There are still DC Catholic schools serving this population, as well as integrating them into a more heterogeneous environment. |
Sorry. Wasn't me. |
Where are the parties? |
Well, we agree. If that’s what someone is seeking for their student, a Jesuit school absolutely isn’t for them. As a Jewish person working at Jesuit institution, I find the engagement with ideas, openness to difference, and emphasis on inquiry really quite inspiring, as do the many Catholics I work with. |
I don't think the two are mutually exclusive...? -Catholic who sends kids to Catholic school |
Yes! Catholicism in a nutshell! |
Nope, I’m the one with the super conservative mom who jokes Jesuit’s are not Catholic. Are you saying you would not send a kid to Notre Dame but would send them to Boston College. It’s odd to me. Jesuits do have an ethos but it rarely is that much different than other colleges (except crazy ones like AveMaria). |
|
BC grad again. We used to say that k-12 was for learning about being Catholic. The theology department did so much more for us.
If parents think theology classes in college should just reinforce Catholicism, isn’t that shortsighted? How good were they at teaching their kid about their faith for 18 years if they think exposure to other beliefs would have their kid walking away? Don’t you want them to be an educated person who can respect other faiths? Fwiw, a lot of Catholics who leave the church leave for either the Episcopal church (Catholic light is the joke) or nothing at all. There’s data on that. |
You say others are “passing judgement “ but you are the one “passing judgement” on non-Jesuit Catholic colleges… like providence college. |
Nope. Not me. I simply asked why Jesuit was a positive on page 1 of the thread. |
Do people saying “it’s a positive” over other Catholics are “passing judgement “ |
