To the woman in Michaels at seven corners who told their daughter to grab your purse

You're an idiot. What happened to you was a nice gesture. What happened to OP was a rude, racist gesture.

I'm white and I love my Coach, but it pretty much is always white women with Coach bags.

I also snatch my purse when I see older white people coming toward me. And I lock and unlock my car doors when I see groups of whites coming toward my car. Nobody ever notices but I giggle.
Yes. I am not on the good list this year.

I think your first example is potentially unfair. I’m a white woman ho has been mistaken for a store employer countless times. I think there are some of us who just give off “I am a service worker” vibes wherever we go. Your other two subversive examples are hysterical.

I get asked where stuff is too! I always try to help though.

Funny thing is, I'm part Asian.

how are Asians threatening white people over there?

By opening restaurants serving delicious Asian food instead of opening a Cracker Barrel

lol, I am a South Asian woman who has been mistaken for an employee when clearance shopping. People see me with my filled cart and think I work in the store and am putting away stuff. Sorry, I am a clearance addict and that is my cart with all that crap.

So taking your purse out of your cart when a POC is present is racist but leaving it IN your cart is something an idiot would do?

White people can't win for losing can they?

PP here. I try to be helpful though when mistaken for an employee. I know some of these stores so well because of my shopping addiction. I've been thanked countless times too.

This.

FWIW, I'm in my late 40s, very fair blonde. This recently happened to me at a store, and like you OP, I was dressed (reasonably) well. Some people suck and distrust everyone, and some people suck and are racist, and some people are both.

Don't let people like that ruin your day.

This.
But also--you made her realize that she was wandering away from her cart with her purse sitting right there, and I don't care how "safe" a neighborhood or store is--it's dumb, dumb, dumb to leave your bag unattended. Of course she should've just taken her cart with her...

I can’t believe you’re already shopping for Xmas!! So impressed…..I need to get my act together. Sending you happy thoughts.

Hahaha this was going to be my reaction to OP, you're effin holiday shopping already!? but thought too insensitive. I'm sorry for the ignorant Coach bag lady OP. Any ideas for stocking stuffers?

Op here - Always! Age and gender?

Leaving your purse in your cart is stupid. But being afraid of a POC stealing your purse, but not another white person, is racist.

If you act differently around people of different races, then you are acting in a racist way.

So if we can all agree that leaving your purse in your cart is stupid, why is everyone outraged that the lady wanted her purse out of her cart?

No, she was right. Lots of people get their bags stolen at the grocery store. It’s a thing.
