Succession--does it get better?

1. I think she is sexy but whatever

2. I think the whole point is that she's not really being groomed. She's somehow in limbo. We were made to think it was her, but it's not her - and will it ever be her? She worked in politics for a while (I think?) but her brother seems to be the only one who actually has some vision for the business.

I don't think it really picks up until ep 4-5 of season 1. A lot of the humor also comes from the characters' personalities, so you do need to invest some time to get to know them.

The payoff is great though - it's probably one of my top 5 shows. Season 2 is so good.

I think she is gorgeous but you are supposed to hate her, like you do everyone in the show (maybe except for Greg).

Welcome to late stage capitalism. This is literally happening in many of America's most important companies. The companies that are smart groom professional managers from outside the family so the heirs don't sink the boat for successive generations.

This is why Roystar will ultimately fail - the patriarch can't give up power, even to his own kids. He has to remain in control, he meddles in his kids' lives, he plays them like chess pieces. Everything will fall apart.

Reminds me so much of Rupert Murdoch. I will be shocked if his company survives his death. More likely it will get spun off, sold, and vulture'd by outsiders.

I love succession and think Schitt’s creek is stupid and not funny at all. Different tastes…

The kids are so unbelievably dumb and act like 7 year olds. The thing is over-dramatic and the cousin Gregg is a mental midget.

Does it truly get better?

Blasphemy! Cousin Greg is my favorite character.

Schitt's Creek was satire and it was pure genius, fun.

This is painfully boring.

So how far into Season 1 do I have to get until it gets better?

DP. See, I absolutely hated Schitt's Creek. Hated it. And I adore Succession. Different strokes...

I think you're confusing Billions with Succession

Haha I watch and enjoy both but, yes, billions can be so corny. I think, because succession is satire and a comedy it can pull off the over the top dialogue and ridiculous characters.

DP. I don’t really consider it satire. And it’s funny, but not exactly a comedy.

+1
There are some humorous moments and clever quips, but Succession is NOT a comedy! It's actually painfully sad. I love it.

But I still enjoy the show. The acting is great, and it’s fun to watch.

I find watching with the captions on really helps. The dialogue is incredible but it moves really fast.

Yes-I watch with the captions on and feel like I get a lot more out of it that way. The dialogue is super sharp and elevated-I think I have pretty decent vocabulary but there are occasionally words on that show that I am unfamiliar with (for example: the use of the word "meretricious" in the most recent episode).

I was disappointed with season 3 episode 1 but I thought that episode 2 was pretty good. Initially it took me a few episodes to get into the show but once I did I really liked it. I read recently that it was renewed for a 4th season. I hope that they don't go on any longer than that-it doesn't seem like the kind of show that can sustain the same level of quality and interest indefinitely. In general, I feel like it's better for most shows to have a few seasons and end on a high note.

On another note, in regards to the PP who said that Shiv was "physically repulsive"-really?? If you worked with someone who looks like her or someone who looks like her lived in your neighborhood I highly doubt you would think she's "physically repulsive." Why is there this expectation that to be an actress you have to be very pretty or beautiful? The character is very unlikeable but she is in no way "physically repulsive." I think she's attractive in a "regular person" sort of way which I appreciate. She's a normal weight which you rarely see in TV or movies-women are either very slim or are playing the "chubby/fat girl" part.

Reminds me of Gossip Girl with older uglier actors and far less funny. How can any adult claim to be obsessed with this show? Rubbish.

As Shiv would say to all the haters in this thread, “Unsubscribe.”

Favorite new phrase I'm itching to use: "Can we just clean slate this?"

Might use it after next argument with spouse!

I don't love it but I do love the filming locations. I love to travel so I like seeing the different places they visit (and wish I could go there!)
