Alexandria's 'futsal rec' isn't really rec I believe. It's teams that their travel players that don't want to commit to Futsal ID because it has winter practices (2-3 times per week depending on team) and they play travel basketball or hockey or a winter sport that interferes with that--or they didn't get a spot. The teams are formed themselves (though there are free agents that need a team that can be placed) and they can either have their own coach or hire a travel one for a small fee. The ID teams have been together a long time, practice weekly, play tournaments, have set plays so they usually will win against the teams formed just for fun, even when those teams are filled with top area players. Just my observance for kids 5 years doing futsal with them. But, I stand to be corrected with no animosity if I'm wrong. |
No, there are two divisions within rec - the pure rec division, made of rec players, and the travel rec divison, made up of travel players. There is pure rec, but travel players are not part of it (unless they want to be, in order to be with a friend, in which case I am sure they could be, but I would not recommend that, given skill difference). |
Any more information on these programs? |
Ha that is what I was looking for. I know # of games, price and where to register but not much else. |
|
We are supposed to do First Touch Futsal. The website sucks. I can't figure out how to register through the portal. No response to my emails. Disappointing.
Kids played 2 years ago through them. Venues were nice. Games on Saturdays. |
| Attended the Alexandria Futsal ID tryouts this week. Very professionally run and many of their coaches have experience playing professional futsal. Yes, that is a thing - even in the U.S. We're from outside the club but found the coaches to be inviting and thorough in their evaluation. Yet to receive an offer, but hopeful because DS performed well. |
This may be something you didn't know previously, but to me, as a Hispanic person, this says "tell me you're not Hispanic without saying you're not Hispanic." |
I considered my audience when writing this. Actually, I've done events with professional futsal teams. So, yes, I knew but understood that many Americans do not. Sorry, if you felt I insulted your intelligence. I'm not Hispanic but my child is half Hispanic for what it's worth. |
So we've got a group of 2004/2005 boys who would like to play in the Alexandria league. Four are SFL rec players and four are low-level travel players. Would it be kosher to sign them up for the rec league posted on ASA's website? https://alexandria-soccer.org/programs/futsal/futsal-league/ |
|
Absolutely. There are real strong teams on the rec side who've played together before and understand the game. Sounds like you'll be competitive in most games.

We got our offer the day after the last tryout. Good luck to your son. |
If this is for the average level travel team it doesn't matter, they all only play 7or 8 games. TSJ would have the nicest facility by far and you can probably get a cocktail while you watch so that would be my choice. A couple of those other options you might have to show proof of tetanus vaccine at the door. |
Not sure I would say that. First Touches uses private school gyms. Metro used GMU and United Sportsplex is brand new. We played at St James one year and it was a bit disorganized and balls would always go across other courts. |
