Futsal

The St. James runs a futsal team (and hosts other teams for games) at their new sports complex in Springfield. My son played futsal with them last year (his first time playing futsal) and had a good time.

The St. James facility really is impressive, and super clean; I’m glad they were able to hold indoor practices games last year and I’m sure they will be able to pull it off this year as well.

Futsal itself, as others have said, is a 5v5 indoor soccer type of game with a low-bounce, smaller-than-soccer sized ball. Good for quick footwork in tight spaces.

Here’s an example of futsal from the recent FIFA World Cup final which was played over the weekend, with Portugal defeating Argentina in the final:

Is the program winter only? My son does a year round program, but we are looking to drop down to a winter-only program, given his school/soccer obligations.

What are some other options for futsal in MD besides Bethesda? Something similar to the Alexandria competitive teams but up north.

Yes, I think so. My kid did it last winter-only. Season ran from late November to March, if I recall correctly.

NPC. He likes it a lot, but it doesn't really work with his regular soccer practice schedule.

In Maryland check out the soccerplex. They have some very good futsal teams, including some super teams (of recruited kids who only play together for tournaments). There is no need to drive into Virginia if you live in Maryland.

If you live in Maryland I would recommend checking out In10sity Futsal.

I agree. I don't live in MD, but my son's team has played them in futsal tournaments, and they are quite good.

Is TSJ doing futsal this year? I checked their website and it says that futsal is not available.

I've heard alot about them too. My son has top level friends that play for them. I think they are southern MD though? Complete opposite area.
