Our school has a similar set up, you could turn left into the school and cut into the carpool line (at an intersection with a stoplight) but that is not the designated kiss and ride path. You are supposed to go up, make a u turn, and then get in the far right lane.
Only issue is we don't live in Mclean so entitled people don't try and cut in line. Everyone waits where they are supposed to wait. |
A turning lane isn’t enough. That would help once the line of cars is moving. In the afternoon, right now cars are backed up on Kirby waiting, before dismissal. So the lane is blocked and no one can get by. It isn’t inching or moving. Just sitting. So non Kirby pick up people get stuck in it with no where to go bc the line isn’t moving or inching. |
| I don't understand this. Our school is an immersion school, so inherently has a lot of kiss & ride kids. They only allow right turns into kiss & ride and the lines were really long the first few days of school. As a result, people park in a pool parking lot/on a side street and go pick their kids up at the walker door. No mega backups both direction. Problem solved. But we live in Fairfax, not McLean. |
I will never understand people who line up 30-45 minutes early. You know that if you get there after the line starts moving, you only have to wait like 10 minutes, right? My kids go to a different school, but school lets out at 4:05 and I arrive at 4:10 when the line starts moving. It's much easier and less time consuming. I don't have that time to waste!! |
They should not allow people to line up more than 5 minutes before dismissal. |
There really isn’t room to line up on Kirby at all. What about that side street near there. After Franklin? |

I would be MORTIFIED if I *accidentally* cut into the kiss and ride line like that.
And people are doing it every day, on purpose? Being observed by people they know? Are they sociopaths who just don't care what anyone else thinks of them? Our middle school has designated turn in and turn out spots for kiss and ride so I'm a little baffled by everyone saying the school doesn't have the authority to tell them where they can turn in. If they didn't, it would be a crazy traffic jam free for all. |
If you would be mortified by this, then you really, really, really need to work on getting a life. |
really? you just break the rules every day in front of your kids school community and you don't care that anyone thinks you are an entitled selfish a-hole? |
+1 Truly mind boggled at all the jerks on here that do not care they are line jumping the families at their school. If someone regularly did this no way would I be keen for our kids to be friends since clearly they are an a—hat. |
Agree. Although honestly, it is helpful for you to let everyone know what a rude, selfish person you are so we can all avoid you and your poor kids! |
| Shouldn't you be alternating lines? That is, one car goes in from one direction, then a car goes in from the other direction? |
On the contrary, I think the people who refuse to let someone turn in ahead of them is the selfish, entitled a-hole. You're not in line for some rare concert ticket or beauty product, Karen, it's just dropping your kid off 30 seconds later than you otherwise would have. Really, truly NBD. I'm so glad I don't live in McLean. I can't believe you people have so much drama over the stupid kiss and ride line!! |
Doesn’t sound like she does. |
Wrong. |
