Keene Mill is equally between WSHS and Lewis by tenths of a mile, and the closest WSHS elementary school to Lewis. Fact.

No one is throwing you under the bus, but if you continue to push that some other farther away neighborhood from "overcrowded" WSHS needs to get rezoned to the "nearby under enrolled high school" because Lewis being under enrolled while WSHS is over capacity is not equitable, at some point, the rest of WSHS is going to start pointing out the obvious, that Keene Mill is the closest school to Lewis, situated almost equally between the 2 high schools, a straight shot down OKM, filled with kids from other high school pyramids due to AAP, and located in the perfect spot to become a split feeder between Irving to Lewis instead of Irving WSHS. It is also not part of the Springfield magesterial district and currently does not have a school board rep, so the Springfield rep could easily decide to support her voting constituents desire to stay at WSHS and focus on rezoning a neighborhood located much closer to Lewis that does not live in her magisterial district or vote for her. Rolling Valley, ironically, is in the Springfield district and votes for the Springfield rep, so she should prioritize RV families over KM families if it comes down to it.

Stop pushing for other WSHS neighborhoods to get rezoned to Lewis, especially if you live in the closest neighborhoods to Lewis, closer even than Daventry.

Instead, join those Sangster, HV and Shannon Station neighborhoods to help push for a residency check at WSHS starting in February 2026 when they form next years schedule. If parents can manage to bring in shot records, then they can manage to bring in a current utility bill, notorized lease, or car tax receipt. It is not that difficult. Every other district in northern Virginia, DC and Maryland mange to do this with no difficulty, no fanfare, and minimal time or expense. There is no escuse for FCPS to not do residenct checks every year, or at least in 7th and 9th grades.

Heck, they could require that the proff of residency be a car tax receipt or a waiver plus your military orders since the only people allowed to not register their car in Virginia are active duty military on orders. That would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I am sure the car tax folks would be overjoyed to collaborate with FCPS on that.

Your “facts” are wrong.
1- Keene mill is closer to BOTH WSHS and Lake Braddock than Lewis.
2- Many Keene mill kids are walkers to WSHS and almost all are walkers to Irving.

Also, in your quest to tell people “not to throw others under the bus” Why are you using the same tactics. I as a Keene Mill parent have attended all the meetings, advocated and never said another school should go, but here YOU are, doing that in the name of saying don’t do it?

Why would you want Irving as a split feeder? And why remove walkers from WSHS?

DP. I appreciate all those Keene Mill moms who are fighting this now, but you realize this is a done deal? They aren't going to suddenly send Orange Hunt to LBSS next week or Daventry to Lewis. You'd be better off working the residency check angle at the Sandy Anderson town hall next week and try to find some allies for your fight, which commences in January 2027.

Or, you know, you could keep fighting each other on this thread, which is dying cause everyone else is done with all this.

Again, it doesn't matter. They aren't moving anyone in that area right now. They will open all of this up again in Jan 2027. So you have plenty of time for your new school board member to show up. Hope you asked them how they felt about the boundary review.

The Keene Mill neighborhoods along zold Keene Mill Rd are over 5 miles from Lake Braddock.

They are 3 miles from Lewis and 2.5 miles from WSHS, a half mile difference.

They are not within the walk zone to WSHS.

Daventry, by the way, is around 3.5 miles from bothe WSHS and Lewis High School.

The Sangster split feeder and the Shannon Station island are almost equally located between LB and WSHS. The Hunt Valley area outside the Pkwy are almost equally located between SoCo and WSHS.

The RV SPA 8922 is around 3.5 miles to WSHS, but almost 5 miles to Lewis.

They are farther to Lewis than the neighborhoods along OKM.

This is one of the issues with the WSHS rezoning. Every home is located with a couple miles of the high school, and the one neighborhood going to Lewis is farther away than both Daventry and the Keene Mill neighborhoods along OKM. That is why they want to attend WSHS. They pass by those 2 neighborhoods to get to their midfle and high school.

Ohhh, so you are picking the closest HOUSE and calling it the ZONE. That isn’t really how it works.

From Keene Mill Elementary itself which is mostly centered in the community and on Old Keene Mill to:

WSHS 1.5 miles (meaning a bunch of kids from the community walk to Keene mill, Irving AND West Springfield)

LBHS 3.6 mils

Lewis 3.8 miles

Destroying walk zones as a policy is insane.

And yes, the boundaries here ARE very very compact. That is why we should all be left alone.

Right, like I am the only voter in Braddock district or am King and living in a monarchy and it is all up to me. Though I apparently disagree with most of them, are many other voices involved in voting and I”m glad we ALL have a voice.

It's too bad that Tom guy win for your district. Just another puppet for Sandy (like McDaniel). Braddock had the choice of democrat who didn't bow down to the board majority, but blew it.

34% of the impacted elementary school students are from the Rt. 1 corridor, impacting 8 elementary schools. 295 of 859 elementary students. All from marginalized communities - low income, ESOL.

19 - from Ft. Belvoir to Washington Mill (students who live off base. There are 3 apartment complexes and one road of single family homes right off base that currently go to FB. Anyone can rent in those apartments/buy those homes.)

35 - from Riverside to Stratford (eliminating a split feeder.). It's a small neighborhood off Rt. 1 consisting of single family and townhomes. I believe it's part of Gum Springs, the historic black community along Rt. 1

76 - from Riverside to Woodlawn. These are three condo, townhouse communities on the "wrong side" of Rt. 1. To help alleviate overcrowding at Riverside and keep the kids on the same side of Rt. 1 for elementary school. Even though they are condos/townhomes, they are pretty run down neighborhood.

107 - from Ft. Hunt to Mount Vernon Woods. These kids live in an apartment complex practically walking distance to MVW (0.9 miles from the front of the complex to MVW.) They've been bused 5 miles past 5 closer elementary schools to FH for years.

58 - from Groveton to Hybla Valley. This is an apartment complex behind one of the strip malls on Rt. 1. These kids are bused past Hybla Valley to get to Groveton

And we spent how much on this review to impact 1/3 of the students in the county from a couple of mile radius and 5% of the elementary schools?

The majority of the high school changes come from just two high schools - McLean and Marshall. Those changes are nowhere near the Route 1 corridor, but rather in Tysons (McLean to Langley) and Vienna (Marshall to Madison). And that’s a prelude to the larger changes for the new western HS.

They also deny access and refuse to make positive changes that families requested. So confusing

I’d be surprised if anyone currently zoned to Madison gets moved to the new Western High School.

I wasn’t suggesting they would be, only that the upcoming HS boundary changes will primarily affect kids nowhere near Route 1.

Only going to see minimal changes at the high school level as the new Reid Aviation Magnet School will be small for a high school and cater to a particular student base.
