Boundary Review Meetings

I just noticed that Virginia has opted into the federal government voucher program (I’m guessing this was under Youngkin). That’s going to be another source of funds for privates going forward.

Here’s to hoping the school board stops with the unrelenting antagonism against FCPS families with this never-ending comprehensive boundary review nonsense.

Even if they hadn’t done a comprehensive review in 40 years doesn’t mean that they now need to subject us to one regularly. It’s maddening.

How do you feel about these changes, McLean and Marshall parents? Do you think these changes will improve your schools, or does it make you want to support whoever runs against Robyn Lady and Karl Frisch next year?

We are a Marshall family with children impacted (reassigned to Madison) and are extremely disappointed by this unnecessary move. We believe it will not improve things at Marshall. How much, if any impact, is unknown, but assume programming and course offering will decrease. For Madison, the move will further decrease the diversity of the school (increase upper middle class) but from a course and programming perspective it will likely make the school stronger. Unfortunately no analysis was done on the impact of this change other than split feeders bad so we need to make the change.

A PP said about 130 kids will move.
How would that improve (JMHS) and weaken (GMHS) "course and programming"?

They are moving about 130 kids from Marshall to Madison and 170 kids from Kilmer to Thoreau, in both cases exclusively from UMC single-family neighborhoods. And they created an isolated Westbriar-Kilmer-Marshall attendance island in western Vienna that, over time, will push to get moved to the Madison or Langley pyramids.

Surely you can admit this will have a negative impact on Marshall's academic offerings in the coming years. The favoritism towards Madison is obvious and appalling.

Marshall had an enrollment of 2190 and 20.78% FARMS last year (I don't know how to find that for current year). If 130 kids leave who were not FARMS, the new enrollment is 2060 and 22.09% FARMS. Do you really expect that to be appreciably different? This is not as significant of a move as everyone is making it out to be.

Now do Kilmer.

This was a decision by Meren and Reid to favor some noisy Vienna parents. The only saving grace is that they will turn Thoreau into an overcrowded mess.

They have said new maps will be available by the end of January. They haven’t been published yet.

Now they are just saying the boundary explorer tool will be updated “soon.”

Another false promise and missed deadline by Michelle Reid. She is so inept.

Avoid mcnair upper es if possible. Lot of kids cheating problems reported. Word on the street is that the school teams were penalized in science Olympiad for cheating

See last column for penalty

Have anyone impacted by next year's boundary changes received communications from either their current school or newly assigned school?

Reid and Meren auctioned off Marshall neighborhoods to Madison to the highest bidders. Frisch and Lady stood by and did nothing.

What pathetic, miserable excuses for public employees and officials.

And add possibly Tysons Green on top of that in 2027!

Wonder when this will happen?

What’s with all these addresses shown as moving from Rolling Valley to…Rolling Valley?

Are they moving or not? God, these people are so incompetent at their jobs.

It appears these are a lot of addresses reassigned to Saratoga, but shown as remaining at Rolling Valley. It's just another instance where they don't bother to check what they've done for errors before posting information. This happened repeatedly throughout the boundary review process. Michelle Reid runs a very loose ship.

Over in Montgomery, the superintendent has made presentations to the MCPS Board of Education relating to the use of two new high schools.

I understand there will be a lot of opposition there to some of his proposals, particularly the proposal to close the current Wootten HS building and relocate most of Wootten's students to a new building, but the level of thought and detail that went into these presentations compared to the consistent lazy, error-ridden slop served up by Michelle Reid is quite instructive:

Here's a recent communication from Marshall:

"With the recent approval of the new boundaries by the school board, we are aware that families who are impacted are wondering what options they have in this transition.

Communication will be coming from the Division soon. As soon as this comes, we will work with Madison to make this transition as smooth as possible for our shared families. Please be on the lookout for targeted communication if you are affected by these changes."

When do kids start taking IB classes? As early as freshmen? This means they missed the opportunity for AP as freshmen.
Another reason to eliminate IB.
