She forgot batteries, and we know their house burned down, so we're assuming the batteries were for the smoke detector.

We're not even assuming, the shot was of a smoke detector with the empty battery wires hanging out.

My DVR cut off so I missed the smoke detector part.

Mine did too! I was so irritated that I missed the last few minutes.

I watched it and still totally missed it. Saw it, but didn’t realize what I saw until I read the blogs. Duh! I had to go back and watch the ending on YouTube.

The funny thing I thought it was so overly obvious as to be ridiculous (her asking him to remind her to get batteries and then the shot of the smoke detector with the empty battery contacts).

I think people just fortgot that Rebecca had asked Jack to remind her to buy batteries at the start of the episode. It was very brief. I remembered it because I ask my dh the same type of question. There should have been a subtitle in English. REMEMBER THIS PART. IT'S IMPORTANT.

That's weird, because I remember thinking at that moment that it was bad, obvious acting when she asked about the batteries!

Whatever, I think it is fun to speculate because I love these characters.

Of course . Fanfictioning holiday schedules seems like a stretch, but it's a popular drama show about a family. Their mom married their dad's good friend after he died. Since he has kids too and his ex was friends with the mom it's not a stretch to wonder where his kids fit in and how the marriage may have affected them. It definitely hits home for those whose parents remarried someone with kids. Sometimes step-sibs get along as one big family and other times they have absolutely no relationship especially if they are older.

VerizonFios?

No, DISH. It's been acting really weird lately.

+1. It didn't flow at all. I need to go to the mall to get a dress for the dance. I need to go to the mall to get a suit for work. I need to go to the mall to get batteries. Dun Dun DUN.

Part of me wouldn't be surprised if the batteries are just to throw us off and have nothing to do with it at the end. Maybe next episode we will just see them putting the batteries in.. haha.

Could they finally get on with it tonight??

I really think it will be the episode after the Super Bowl. They have to make that one very dramatic.

I know, that was way too heavy-handed. I love the show and I forgive it most of its flaws, but it would be better if they treated some things more subtly. I mean, at this point, we've seen the fuse blowing at last three times, maybe more ...

Well, I guess we will finally see it all. It just makes my stomach churn to think of someone dying in a fire- how excruciating.
My prediction is that Jack goes back for Kate's dog. How terrible for her.

So sad

Will never look at my crockpot the same away again

In case anyone didn’t watch through the very end of scenes for the next episode, which is on after the Super Bowl, they recommended setting your DVR to record longer in case the game runs late & the episode starts later than planned.
