Malaysia Airlines Flight Goes Missing En Route to China

So it's likely the plane is being hidden after landing on the Andaman Islands? After all, why hijack to crash it in the ocean? Unless the attempt went wrong and the plane crashed.

The article suggests after 4 hours the pings may have been disabled by someone on board. If they knew how to disable it, why wait 4 hours? What is the difference between pings and transponder?

Either they forgot or they want to be found so they let it continue to give a general idea of where to look. Sounds like a set up though if it's option 2 since they would clearly be well prepared.

I wonder if one of the pilots had a mental break and decided go fly somewhere, and create some mythical new life?

Or they underestimated the amount of fuel required to get to where they wanted to be.

I'm thinking he would take off without the passengers though maybe not if he's a fan of Lost.

If it did land... What does that mean for the Indian authorities? Was someone paid to turn a blind eye?

One or the other seems likely. Perhaps someone stole the plane. After leaving commercial airspace, the world is a big place. The passengers ... wrong place , wrong time. or one or more of the passengers is involved.

The Wall St. Journal really has good coverage of this situation.

They report that India is doing a land search. There are 572 islands out there and only 37 are inhabited. The others are "dense tropical jungle."

I assume it would not be impossible to set up a runway strip unnoticed--when you are on one of 535 uninhabited islands!

I think it was a hijacking gone wrong and they are in the ocean. But there is a possibility there is an airstrip out there. Either way, I think the passengers are dead because if it was a hijacking, the booty is the plane and/or cargo, with the idea to make it look like the plane is in the ocean. Because ransoming is too risky as it establishes definitely the plane and maybe some other people are still alive, and removes the oceans as a search area thus narrowing the field too much.

A Boeing 777 requires a runway that is 2 miles long. Not hard to spot from the air especially with jungle.

Why would someone steal a 777? That would be like a car thief stealing a fire truck or the Oscar Meyer wienermobile. Can't use it without being noticed. Can't even use the parts.

Wow this gets stranger and stranger!

It might be hijacking without terrorism.

With terrorism, there is a larger agenda, and it's useful to make that agenda publicly known. This case simply doesn't smell like terrorism.

A hijacking could be a lone crazy person with a plan in their head. This is more plausible.

They wanted what was in the cargo area.

On second thought, maybe they needed the knowledge of more than one passenger all who booked the same flight.

im sure if something that valuable war in the cargo area then the police would have brought it up. No one is going to hijack a plane to get to the contents of a passenger suitcase.
