And it's middle school so you won't be having wet behind the ear teens driving out onto 270. |
Damascus to Crown for a holding school is a horrible idea. Way too far of a commute. Absolutely unacceptable and yet will most likely happen ugh |
Woottons boundries have changed my kids went from Frost to Cabin John, which was just absurd. |
Well, I live on the west side, and I think Option H is a good idea given the current fiscal issues and declining enrollment.
|
But you don’t live in Wootton. If you did, you would have said so. |
DP. Why does it matter where in the county people live? This is a decision greatly affecting the countywide budget. |
There are many ways they could reduce the budget. For example, they could close 20% of elementary and middle schools and still have enough seats, but that would cause too much disruption. The same applies in this situation. Budget considerations are not the only factor at play here. |
But the point was people living anywhere in the county can weigh in. |
Of course they can. But MCPS should listen carefully to those who are most affected by their decision. Amorphous concerns about budgets are curiously absent when people have something to gain. Here, Wootton families don’t want to move to Crown, but rather the bare minimum maintenance to their existing facility. That is a very small ask compared to the enormous impact a move will have on the Wootton community. |
The hyperbole and villianization is out of control here. Nobody wants to "destroy the W schools." And if there are some who dislike the perceived privilege of those communities, they don't care enough to do "everything in their power" to "nuke" it. It was MCPS that put this option on the table, not an imaginary band of angry anti-W haters. I take no issue with anybody arguing against Option H and making arguments for why another option is better. It is important civic engagement. But you can do that without creating a war mentality and casting everybody who does not share your opinion as motivated by some type of vengeance. Honestly, reasonable minds may differ. |

+1 the victim mentality of these UMC people is unpleasant to watch. |
It’s not victim mentality when you actually ARE a victim. I guess Wootton kids don’t belong to their parents anymore. The kids who go to Wootton don’t want to go to Crown, but their opinions don’t seem to matter either. Kinda gross when you get down to it. Involuntary servitude to the whims of those unaffected by their decisions. |
Yes, most kids always want to stay at their schools. But that's not a factor in the decision making. |
It actually is a factor. But, you want to spread the intellectual wealth of Wootton around, so you don’t care what they think. |
