The hyperbole and villianization is out of control here. Nobody wants to "destroy the W schools." And if there are some who dislike the perceived privilege of those communities, they don't care enough to do "everything in their power" to "nuke" it. It was MCPS that put this option on the table, not an imaginary band of angry anti-W haters.

I take no issue with anybody arguing against Option H and making arguments for why another option is better. It is important civic engagement.

But you can do that without creating a war mentality and casting everybody who does not share your opinion as motivated by some type of vengeance.

Honestly, reasonable minds may differ.
Some of those angry W-haters are on the BOE and county council and they've been using hyperbole and villainization of W school families since these families pushed back against their bussing scheme several years ago. Now they have to opportunity to clip one of the Ws and blame the budget. A simple search of DCUM forum will reveal hundreds of anti-W-school comments. Pretending otherwise is either ignorance or malice.

You all had a tantrum and in response are being offered a new school. You are saying no to it, which makes you look bad so if you don’t want to use crown, wait your turn.

Putting Wootton kids at Crown is just dumb.

It won't matter in the end this will be the end of a great HS.

Putting Damascus kids there is absurd. The distance is too far.

Apologies if this has been covered but what happens to over crowded RM if there is no actual new school. They just stay overcrowded? Or lB will just shrink considerably with the new magnet system so they will be ok?

MCPS could send RM kids to Crown, but they want to lift and shift Wootton. RM isn’t even an afterthought.

+1 the victim mentality of these UMC people is unpleasant to watch.
Yes! We better close their school to teach them a lesson.

This is exactly the mentality of troll group here who wants to teach Wootton families a lesson

You are the problem and stop complaining and wait in line for the repairs. Its a decent school with lots of issues, like many other schools. Lets not pretend Wootton doesn't have its issues. Regardless of what happens it will be fine. Or, fundraiser and the PTA or boosters can pay for the repairs.

Yep. This was exactly their mentality when they cooked up their original bussing scheme years ago. COVID wasn't a roadblock. It was just a speed bump.

Covid was years ago. Anyone still thinking about it needs mental health treatment.

My kids have graduated so I have no horse in this race other than seeing east county pro-busers like you fail. And calling Wooton families' need for remediating health hazards at their school without being bussed to a school in Gaithersburg "a tantrum" is insane.

So, what is your solution? There are far off schools that are being shut down for days at a time, which isn't happening to Wootton. No other school is close enough to get a new school handed to them, so be grateful or be quiet and wait your turn.

It’s not victim mentality when you actually ARE a victim. I guess Wootton kids don’t belong to their parents anymore. The kids who go to Wootton don’t want to go to Crown, but their opinions don’t seem to matter either.

Kinda gross when you get down to it. Involuntary servitude to the whims of those unaffected by their decisions.

You thinking that MCPS should do what a group of UMC parents want is entitlement. You can share your opinion, just as others can share theirs. But, ultimately, MCPS should choose the option that makes the most sense.

Did you not hear that MoCo has a huge budget crisis in the coming years? Do you realize that there are 22 schools on the CIP? There's a brand new school a couple of miles away from Wootton. No other school on the CIP has a brand new school near it.

This is how it looks from the outside. Wootton families have complained for years about the physical state of their school. (Legimitately, in my opinion.). Wootton families have also been active participants on this board arguing that they don't want their school broken up-- there is a coherent community and they want to keep it together. Also understandable. Now they are given an option that achieves both of these aims but moves the school a few miles away, and there is strong opposition. The people on this board (who knows if they accurately reflect the sentiment of the typical Wootton family) want to gain the perfect solution for their kids without giving up anything.

The reality is that almost no one who has any kind of change made to the status quo will be happy. There will be a large number of individuals who are very unhappy because their kid has to move schools. These kinds of boundary shifts are full of disruption. But by moving the location of their school, Wootton families achieve the things they've been advocating for and are squealing louder than almost anyone in the county. (Frankly, I understand the resistance of people who are currently walkers to Wootton-- maybe that's mostly who we are hearing from here? But for families already being bussed, the move will have minimal practical impact.)

But Wootton families don’t want Crown. Feel free to give it to one of the other high schools that needs it more. Just remediate a few issues at Wootton. The millions that it will cost to move Wootton and rebrand Crown as Wootton can be used for this purpose.

With that problem solved, why do you really want to move Wootton to Crown? I just drove by Crown and there are a bunch of signs at new developments and renovated apartment complexes advertising that Crown is the new Wootton. How much more can they charge home buyers and renters by trading on the Wootton reputation as the #3 high school in the state and #191 in the country?

Qui bono? Answer that question, and you’ll have the truth.

Then wait your turn for repairs and stop making a public stink. There are far worse schools right now.

I am agreeing with you. Wootton should stay and wait and not move to Crown.

And no Wootton will not be "fine" if it moves to Crown.
