There is actually very little left that is historic. I have a book on the history of the WH and it shows the Residence completely hollow inside. Plenty of presidents have built and added and removed stuff at the WH.

Confederate generals put up in the 1950s that’s a terrible destruction of history.

But tearing down something built in the 40s in the literal White House is nbd.

Not sure if it has been mentioned before but early reports said that only part of the east wings was being demolished. However, latest news

White House East Wing will be torn down fully to make way for Trump ballroom

thus completely breaking Chump's pledge to not interfere with the existing U.S. landmark.

A future president should tear that sh!t down since it was funded by a bunch of billionaires anyway. Who tf would want some glorified pool house to overshadow the main house?

Whats interesting is its all donations and even settlements from when he sued private companies. Trump won't even be in office when it's done so its a legacy kind of thing

What constitutes a major wing of the white house? there are only two wings.

No one ever talked about the East Wing till now as it is unremarkable office space. It is not the Residence or the West Wing. It was substantially rebuilt in the 40s with new stories added to it, which makes it younger than my house. And further substantial remodeling also occurred. I don't particularly care that it's being replaced with a new ballroom. It's not special in my book and I am a lover of historic architecture and preservation, but also realistic.

You're just upset because it's Trump doing it.

1000 people seems like way too many people to have at the White House anyway. Where do all those people stay, park, get dropped off, etc? The staging for an event like that must be insane. It’s a house not a convention center.
