Good god, people. This is a minor wing of the White House. It's not historic, built mostly in the late 40s when the WH was completely gutted and rebuilt and the wings added. There is actually very little left that is historic. I have a book on the history of the WH and it shows the Residence completely hollow inside. Plenty of presidents have built and added and removed stuff at the WH. [/quote]

No one ever talked about the East Wing till now as it is unremarkable office space. It is not the Residence or the West Wing. It was substantially rebuilt in the 40s with new stories added to it, which makes it younger than my house. And further substantial remodeling also occurred. I don't particularly care that it's being replaced with a new ballroom. It's not special in my book and I am a lover of historic architecture and preservation, but also realistic.
