^ sorry it was “so far” in the investigation. |
Actually I can read, and at least I’m not a d1ck. “ Souza says Magalhaes was arriving for work when she saw a man entering the house and, feeling scared, called Brendan Banfield to tell him about the break-in. Magalhaes and Brendan Banfield then entered the property and found Christine wounded.” |
And let's hear about this other job since it was never mentioned in the article... |
? I think you are mistaken. I believe they arrested her last week at BB’s house, which leads me to conclude she was still living there as his Au pair. If she’s on a J-1 visa she’s not allowed to have “another job” and still live at BB’s house. |
Yes, that PP accusing people of not being able to read clearly has not been following the case and lacks comprehension AND social skills. She was arrested at the house Friday the 13th. |
Some neighbor said they had not seen BB and daughter around since the arrest. Were they back over the weekend? |
You can watch the actual LE press conference, linked in thread. She told her mom
First of all, obviously not closed, since she is now locked up, and the second part is a bit more complicated, perhaps. This girl is likely not the innocent waif you would like to think. She and Brendan both lied about him being the shooter of Joe and there being a home invasion, which LE said was false as early as the day of the killings. She has lied about a lot of things. She may have thought Brendan would marry her. The timeline that morning was so tight, just don't see how it wasn't premeditated. Her involvement and knowledge may come out in more detail, or she may flip, provide evidence and plea, so we may never know. How would she have access to a gun? Wouldn't she let the LE officer right there handle Joe? Why did she not call 911 first? Why was her focus not on protecting the child and staying out of the house if her concern had a basis? |
I really hope the 911 audio gets released at some point in the not too distant future. I mainly just want to hear the tone of the AP and BB, but also exactly how BB said he was the shooter. Not that I doubt the police version, but I have seen other cases where the police said a suspect said something on a 911 tape, but when the call audio is actually released things are more open to interpretation. |
So from earlier in the thread, Juliana was the au pair for the Banfields by 11/21. J-1 can only be 2 years people have said. 1 year + extension.
Juliana's mother says she recently applied for visa to be extended. What could be the basis? Anyone surprised he has not married her? Bet she was hoping. https://www.instagram.com/p/CW5yWhDrffP/ |
After au pairing in the US for two years, she wouldn't be able to extend her J-1 visa as an au pair. Either her mom misunderstood, or she was applying to switch her visa status from J-1 to F-1 as a student. An F-1 visa would have allowed her to stay in the US legally and go to school. It's really hard for au pairs to do this, though, because they have to have a sponsor, who agrees to pay the tuition for all four years. The sponsor has to actually show proof of funds and sign an affidavit promising to pay even if the student quits school. Plus, under a student visa, she wouldn't legally be able to work, so she'd have to show that she has a means of supporting herself without working. If she is trying to get an F-1 student visa, either she has a rich relative or BB is sponsoring her. In the case of the latter, immigration official often frown upon host families sponsoring their former au pairs, because it suggests that the student is still going to be working for the host family as a childcare provider, which is prohibited under visa rules. It's rare for an au pair to successfully switch from J-1 to F-1. Most of the time they just stay in the US illegally or get married. |
She can't have another job, her J-1 visa, expiring, is linked to being an au pair for the Banfields. 1 year match + 1 year extension is the extent of a J-1. Au pairs literally can't have another job, the visa is specific, you may not know that. Why attack other posters? Especially when you are wrong, lol. Looking at Brendan Banfield and Juliana trying to pull this off, might want to see the cautionary tale and temper the hubris a bit. |
Super interesting. Thanks for all of this info. Suspect she lied to her mom about the visa. She may have been counting on him marrying her. Anyone know if she was enrolled in school? It's already almost November and her visa is basically up. Assume Fairfax will hold and not deport? She could really enhance their case about Banfield if she ever tells the truth. Must have been a bit stressful in Herndon as of late. May that work in favor of justice. |
It could mean that Christine actually knew him by having met him before (for any reason), and that the husband may not have ever met him, but knew OF him. |
I don't think it is unreasonable for a foreign au pair to call the person she knows best instead of 911. She isn't from this country -- so calling 911 is not something she grew up with as the natural response to an emergency. The question about "wouldn't she let the LE officer who has a gun handle any problem?" -- that is a legit question and does not make sense. But, I wouldn't get hung up on the idea that she called the husband before calling 911. (of course we all know this is a scam). |
The options for her legally stay here are very limited - as they should be, since the au pair program is a cultural exchange program, not intended to be a path to residency. In the au pair community, it is a well known stereotype that au pairs from South America, and Brazil specifically, come to the US to find a "rich" husband and live like a princess. Obviously unfair to group all South American au pairs, and we don't know this one personally, but it's enough of a thing that host families joke about it... and a lot of host families refuse to interview Brazilian au pairs because of it. The photo of her and BB being circulated, if real, is certainly in line with the stereotypes. |
