Bullshit. |
Thanks Vlad, but the facts do not bear this out. Russia is the aggressor here. They are in violation of the previous two accords and are militarily occupying Ukrainian sovereign territory and have for years. They amassed more troops, they engaged in cyber attacks and are now actually attacking in the name of self-defense. Ukraine has no interest to "topple Russia militarily" - they want Russia out but have lived with the status quo. this is all Putin. |
^^^ I don't know who Christopher Miller is, but he was retweeted by Natasha Bertrand, so I trust his reporting. |
Why is Putin even doing this anymore? He took his shot at getting NATO to self-destruct and it didnt work. There is nothing in it for Russia except extra wheat while the downside is huge. Is his domestic situation that precipitous?
This has nothing to do with security. Ukraine had no short to medium term chance of joining NATO and NATO's Black Sea presence was minimal. His actions have only increased both and threatened the oligarchs foreign holdings and assets. |
He knows no one is going to stop him from taking (more of) Ukraine. He's got Belarus in his pocket. This is about expanding Russia's territory and showing the world that the West is weak and will do nothing to stop him. |
I mention Belarus because it's clear he's trying to slowly take back former USSR territories for a Soviet Reunion. |
As a history nerd, I find this fascinating that Putin's orchestrated casus belli is being dissected in real time on social media.
Currently, people in the Russian-held areas of Eastern Ukraine are being told to evacuate to Russia because Russia says Ukraine is going to attack them. One of the rebel leader's car was blown up (he wasn't inside) and a gas pipeline in the area has been attacked. Biden is speaking now, saying that Putin has decided to invade, and that Kyiv will be targeted in the coming days. |
Sorry, Boris, it appears that US intelligence has a mole in the Kremlin and knows the entire plan. How did Biden put it?
They have "significant intelligence capability"? His address was completely coherent and to the point. A single man - Vladimir Putin - has decided to start a needless war which will cause great suffering and death for tens of thousands. But Ukraine, the US, the EU, NATO, everyone... all would be happy to continue diplomatic negotiations - just don't do it and give us a call. |
Here is a good source of info on current situation in Ukraine.

+1 the remarks were clear and concise. The US and its European allies have played this as best as can be expected. If Russia continues down this road, it will be destroyed economically. |
