Montgomery- 5 more days and masks off.

Yeah. Like the lady I saw yesterday driving in a mini copper convertible. Alone. With a mask. Does she think she’s gonna catch covid From the air? Or is she making a statement. Like her Biden bumper sticker isn’t enough. The mask reinforces to all who see her that she’s anti trump.
But I have to say we are also all becoming conditioned in this area. Especially the kids. I’m noticing more and more that young kids, elementary and high school age, or just wearing masks everywhere. I don’t think they’re doing it to make a statement and I certainly don’t think they’re afraid I think they’ve just gotten used to them and it’s become their new normal. I’m sure their parents reinforce it as well but when they’re out and about walking down the street they still have their masks on. I just don’t understand on how beautiful day it was yesterday at someone who choose to walk down and empty sidewalk alone or with another close friend or family member and keep their mask on. Don’t you miss breathing fresh air?

Um, I have noticed masks help with allergies since wearing them for Covid.

Now I wear a mask to mow the grass every single.time, not because I am protecting myself from Covid.

Don't you think someone driving a convertible with a mask on might be more likely to have learned they can drive their convertible with the top down and not feel sick from allergies if they put a mask on?

It's literally the one reason I don't own a convertible, because the only nice times I could drive it here in the spring and fall are when the air is full of stuff I am allergic to.

Have you ever considered some people you see now wearing masks are wearing them for reasons other than Covid?

Or do you just get so spitting mad that you can't think straight?

Interesting that you assume the kids are doing it because they are just used to it by now...which is likely true...but the adult must be doing it to proclaim some political agenda you have made up in your head.

Get a grip. Many people have masks on for a variety of *health* -related reasons. I don't know a single person who does it to make a political statement.

You RWNJs need to get hobbies and go out and enjoy that weather. Maybe some deep breathing of that fresh air could calm your nerves and help you find a way to show some grace when dealing with other adults doing their best to get through this pandemic instead of looking for ways to throw out more hate.

You pollute the world with your anger and hate.

We went out of our way to reinforce to our kids that they need to take their masks off when they're outside. We never made them wear it at the playground or any other outdoor activity. It's just school at this point, and our 13 year-old says enforcement is pretty haphazard at his DC MS.

I don't want my kids to think this is normal. I'm really jealous of their cousins down in Florida who have been going to school all year with zero restrictions. It's frustrating to me that the demographic that is at the lowest risk is stuck living with restrictions to protect adults who can't be bothered to vaccinate themselves. You don't want to get the vaccine? Fine. But, leave my kids alone and let them get back to normal life.

Can we focus on the real reason folks have had Covid result in hospitalizations and death?
Obesity.

But nobody wants to talk about it lest we offend. Just Google obesity and Covid and understand that your little cloth mask and the mandate to wear it is a big nothing compared to the harm of obesity. Yet masks we debate for hours - obesity nobody mentions.

Not really. The main reason is age. There are a lot of geriatrics that are in denial about their mortality. Old people die. It’s sad, sort of, but not worth shutting businesses or schools down over.

Obesity is number two, but a pretty distant second.

Your point is well-taken, though. If people were actually worried about reducing non-elderly deaths, COVID would be low on their priority list. Obesity. Car accidents. Proper social safety nets that prevent people from falling into poverty. Mental health support to reduce alcohol and drug addiction. But masking, quarantines, closures and capacity restrictions? Not so much.

What is this nonsense about the hoards of people wearing masks all the time for …. Allergies??? Of course it is a political statement. We tell our kids to keep the damn mask off anywhere and everywhere they go where it isn’t required. I’ve traveled a couple of places and MD is the most crazy in terms of mask Nazis.

my kid with allergies gets to wear a mask all day and guess what happens? It is covered in snot by the end of the day. Sometimes it is a crust of boogers that has attached between her nose and her mask. She's 6, btw. I don't think the mask is helping with the allergies. For that we try and use drugs. Which are actually effective.

I agree. Not politically correct to talk about obesity. Body positivity is the only way to go.

I agree.

My nephew’s school is Florida has ‘Parent Choice’ for masks in school. No mandates. About half the kids mask.

It need to be a choice at this point. This is not normal and our kids need a break.

I assure you that people who are obese are aware of it all the time, and desperately wish they were not obese. Most of us have spent our entire lives trying to lose weight. Losing weight is one thing, but keeping it off is extremely hard. There is a reason that over 90 percent of people who lose weight gain it all back. Your body adjusts and reducing the amount of calories you burn to try to get back to a higher set point. Body shaming doesn't work, it is just cruel.

Today we are at 53.2. We’re lower than yesterday but three days into the seven day maskup countdown.

I’m not sure when the kids’ vaccinations will start influencing our numbers but I’d like to see these numbers go back down.

It is normal to them. Why do you care! Your kids are good people. You should learn from them.
