That's awful. Here's the MCPD press release:
Detectives Investigate Rape of Teenager in Sandy Spring Area Detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division are investigating the Thursday, September 15 sexual assault of a teenager that occurred while she was walking in the Sandy Spring area. To protect the victim, the Department is not releasing the victim’s age. On September 15, officers were called to investigate the report of a sexual assault that had occurred between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Detectives spoke with the victim, who reported that she was approached by a male while she was walking in the area of Olney-Sandy Spring Road (Route 108) in the Sandy Spring area. The suspect, using no words, directed the victim to a grassy area located off of Olney-Sandy Spring Road. The suspect then raped the victim. The victim returned home and reported the assault to her parents. Police were notified of the assault and responded to the hospital where the victim was receiving medical treatment. Detectives continue to work to confirm additional details about the suspect and sexual assault. As additional information is confirmed, it will be provided to the community. Anyone with information about this sexual assault is asked to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400 or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to their line that leads to an arrest in this case. | Any description of the perp? |
| I have not seen a description anywhere. |
I hope they get some more info out. I live near there, though my kids are only in ES. I would think there were a decent amount of people on the road at that hour. Hopefully someone saw something. |
| I was assaulted in college and walked back onto campus through crowds in broad daylight. Not all rapes involve having the crap beat out of you so that you have torn clothes or a heavily bruised face. It's still rape. A naive HS girl might have been intimidated by a larger adult male and too scared to run away or scream. |

The perp "directed" the victim to a grassy area, "using no words".
What's odd with this? Shouldn't the perp 'force' the victim in some way? Someone please explain this unusual choice of words. |
What if he indicated he had a weapon. All of this second guessing of the victim is heartless and cruel. Why would someone lie about this? |
They would have reported that he had a gun. Kids lie all the time. Where have you been? |
Then the police typicality say: "At gunpoint" or whatever weapon it was. You know that, don't you? |

I agree
Something fishy. |
| This young lady has been through a traumatic experience, let's show compassion. |
Well I'm the poster who lives in the area. I agree that something is weird about the lack of details in the story. Maybe it was someone the girl new (but was still rape)? At any rate, there has been an increase in police activity in the area so the police must have some suspicion that something happened. There were police cars by the elementary school and on a few of the roads around it yesterday. Even later into the evening/night. |
