Note from Sherwood HS Principal about Sandy Spring Rape

15:24 the police walk a fine line between capability and politics/press. No, it doesn't. If they were "dubious" about the whole thing, there wouldn't have been "any" press release.

This is idiotic, and the epitome of MoCo entitlement. How about let the police do their job.

Something fishy.

Well I'm the poster who lives in the area. I agree that something is weird about the lack of details in the story. Maybe it was someone the girl new (but was still rape)?

At any rate, there has been an increase in police activity in the area so the police must have some suspicion that something happened. There were police cars by the elementary school and on a few of the roads around it yesterday. Even later into the evening/night.

Many times police purposely leave out details as a strategy.

I wonder if they already have someone in custody?

If it was a local vagrant (who was likely known by the authorities), they could pick him up rather easily on other charges and get an ID from the victim.

Or maybe we will hear more on Monday when their pr person is back on the job?

b/c these releases are fairly skeletal, too -

I live in the area and have heard that the girl is someone with 'special needs'. The cops are very much taking the case seriously.

That would explain the missing details regarding the man's appearance. And now there are other questions that come up - Why was she by herself? Why didn't anyone notice?

very sad indeed

But it's also scary knowing that the man could potentially still be around the area.

Many students with SN get themselves to and from school starting in MS as a way to build basic life skills.

As for why people didn't say or do something: most likely, drivers in cars whizzing by didn't notice the two at all or didn't see enough to interpret an assault.

I don't think that's bet unusual at all. We have two kids with SN in our neighborhood and they are often around outside walking on their own.

Also, it happened between 7 and 8am. People are busy, hurrying to get to work, etc. I could see people just driving by and not paying attention. Things happen all the time in this area, I'm broad daylight without witnesses.

Agree that it's scary to think the guy is still around.

...and we haven't been told anything about him. No clue what color skin he has, if he's old or young, etc. And no clue where the incident happened ("near 108" isn't a location).

Maybe the girl wasn't able to provide a description so the cops are doing the best they can. I read that they are going to look through Sherwood HS security tapes. Hopefully something turns up.

That is so very very awful.

To other SN parents - the new Apple Watch has GPS in it so you can track where your loved one is.
Seems essential.

So sad that on top of it all, she's a SN girl. I also didn't know that SN kids could walk to school alone.
