For the Spirit this refers to their pro and reserve teams. If a player is truly elite they will get playing time with their reserve WPSL team and have the chance to work up to their first team. If your kid is the next Mallory Pugh you would want her to play someplace that offers a pathway to something higher than youth soccer.

Can we all just agree for now women's soccer ends at college. This pro stuff is not for the best players, but those that chose to pursue it instead of a career with foundation in academics. It is unlike the men's pro teams where a financial windfall is awaiting.

As father's, I think we need to let our daughters know financial independence will come only from her mind. Short of WC the world does not respect women's soccer.

You do have a good point about pro soccer. But even if college soccer is the end all be all of a career, getting pulled into the spirit reserve team as a junior in high school could have a huge impact on what college she ends up at.

As a parent to boys that are straight A students---as good as they are at soccer--they are American and the odds are against them ever doing anything past MLS at the very best. Unless we move to Europe immediately to make up for lost time---their brain is going to be the biggest earner.

I am still teaching academics is utmost importance at this point. I will entertain all their dreams and drive them around---as long as they continue to get their school work done and maintain their GPA.

MLS men's salary: The median salary $117,000. Sorry--I was making this in my late 20s as a GS-employee with much better health and retirement. Average is $141k less than my current GS-15.

Also eye-opening about salaries per position:

Goalkeepers earn an average of $85,296.48; defenders $109,119.61; midfielders $129,573.88; and forwards $251,805.21.

^^The average MLB salary is over $4 million and players still get $100 a day in meal money.

How Much Money NFL Players Make

Highest NFL Salary (Drew Brees)

$23,800,000

Lowest NFL Salary (Rookie Minimum) $435,000
Median NFL Salary $860,000
Average NFL Salary $2,150,000
Total NFL Salary Money $3.6 billion

Anymore questions on why soccer is not progressing in the US?

What's surprising is the salary a GS15 makes...I was wondering why all you govt workers weren't complaining about the new tolls about to go into effect

surprising high or surprising low?

If I read that right, the guy says he makes 141k more than the average MLS salary? That 117k median MLS number isn't the average but should be close which would put a GS15 salary at 250k. Maybe Trump has inflated GS salaries too, as I thought GS15's were in the 102 - 133k range.

^^missi g a dash.

$141k is less than what I make as a Fed employee.

Fed competitive scientist pay scale $155k. (10k end of year production bonus in top of this). But--yes IT spouse makes about $300k more than the average MLS salary.

I think all can agree that kids aren't drawn to the MLS by dreams of riches like the MBL, NBA and NFL.

They won't be able to live off that $ after injury or retirement at 30.

And if you're talking about the girls or women -- soccer ain't riches. Playing top 15 D1 in college is the highest aspiration for most of the top youth players.

Would love to hear about FCV / Loudoun girls DA callbacks last nigh, too.

How did ASIST go?

Credit where credit is due. We had a negative 30 goal differential, approximately (yeah, I know), but the boys played on a very nice turf field at a facility that was easy to get to for our club and I'm not making this up but the refereeing was some of the best we've ever experienced. Now we will head back to our low-level NCSL play with tails between our legs.

Spirit DA 04 had roughly 20-25 girls across the 04 and 03 age groups in a combined session. There was a good range of talent levels present. The FCV callbacks had 30-35 in the 04 age group. As you would expect, the average talent level was higher in the FCV session.

The Spirit DA ID session for the older girls was similar - 26 to 28 players with skills ranging from very good to B team levels. Only three Spirit coaches were there but session was well organized, with a passing drill, a possession/keepaway game and then a scrimmage.

Coach said the technical director for Virginia will be named this week and offers will start coming after that. But some players have already received offers and that may be one reason why there weren't more top players at the session.

Hopefully the coach and players were able to take away some positives from their games and determine what can be worked on to improve. If anything, find a way to motivate players to improve to get to a higher level. It's a preseason tournament so it doesn't count for much.

Could they have been put in a more balanced division or was club/coach eager to have them play at higher level than where the team belongs?
