Umm that is a form letter. You don't honestly think they read your email and sent that to you do you?

When did the OP say he sent an email? I thought he completed some interest form and this is what he received. He knows his daughter is an 06 and probably wouldn't be selected by wanted to attend tryouts anyway. Since this forum has had a lot to with Spirit DA, he figured he would share.

Why do you feel you need to someone down to feel better? Regardless of what you may think, the poster has contributed more to the conversation than you have.

Thank you. Someone understood it. I was teasing about bringing my daughter up there, she is only an 06!!!! . . . but thought others would want the relevant info. I also thought it was interesting that they for the 1st time reached out to everyone that ever registered as interested in the Spirit DA. Prior to this they were targeted to the U14 to U19 registrants.. .

The information was fine, the implication that Spirit was now so desperate that they were reaching out to 06's was the issue. Unfortunately they did not use the international symbol for sarcasm ":/" To have done so would have made the post a bit more clear.

So please kindly ride your high horse off a cliff.

. . . does anyone in Arlington or McLean know if their ECNL partnership is going to be renewed in light of the whole NoVA boondoggle with the Washington Spirit-VA?

. . . it is still on the website even though nothing really materialized and the affiliation expired.

I'm not sure why any arrangement with McLean regarding ECNL would change. DA? Who knows.
Anonymous
I'm not sure why they ever had this arrangement other than for Arlington to say they're "affiliated with" ECNL. If an Arlington player really wants to play ECNL, then just go try out for McLean (or Bethesda or next year, BRYC).
Anonymous
I forgot all about this. Did any Arlington players ever get to play McLean ECNL? I guess they would be designated players if they were still rostered by Arlington for their regular league, etc but then carded as DPs to play ECNL games with McLean. Was that something that happened or was it just an affiliation on paper?

For the Spirit this refers to their pro and reserve teams. If a player is truly elite they will get playing time with their reserve WPSL team and have the chance to work up to their first team. If your kid is the next Mallory Pugh you would want her to play someplace that offers a pathway to something higher than youth soccer.

Can we all just agree for now women's soccer ends at college. This pro stuff is not for the best players, but those that chose to pursue it instead of a career with foundation in academics. It is unlike the men's pro teams where a financial windfall is awaiting.

As father's, I think we need to let our daughters know financial independence will come only from her mind. Short of WC the world does not respect women's soccer.

You do have a good point about pro soccer. But even if college soccer is the end all be all of a career, getting pulled into the spirit reserve team as a junior in high school could have a huge impact on what college she ends up at.

As a parent to boys that are straight A students---as good as they are at soccer--they are American and the odds are against them ever doing anything past MLS at the very best. Unless we move to Europe immediately to make up for lost time---their brain is going to be the biggest earner.

I am still teaching academics is utmost importance at this point. I will entertain all their dreams and drive them around---as long as they continue to get their school work done and maintain their GPA.
