The Golden Bachelor

I really do not like Theresa. All the eyelash batting and playing stupid plus her head is too big for her body. I liked Susan and Edith.

If Gerry is, at heart, at a time in life where he wants to keep it simple, then Faith and Leslie are not going to be the right "speed" for him. Theresa might be more on that speed level.

That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with Faith, or Leslie or Theresa or Gerry. It's just a matter of finding someone who wants to live life at the same pace as you.

Yes, good point. Although I find Theresa quite boring compared to the other two, maybe that’s better suited to him at this stage in his life.

I don't know what "securities professional" means, but it suggests Teresa is at least somewhat smart. She's 70, so she's probably not on the trading floor, but maybe she owns a brokerage or day trades, who knows. I did find Theresa pretty disingenuous during the whole Kathy spat. But it's probably going to be Teresa.

I agree on both counts. I couldn't for the longest time figure out exactly what it is that I find so off-putting about Theresa, but I think it has something to do with being both so childlike and so manipulative. It's that she is smug and so pick-me about the telling and the telling and then the telling Gerry and all of it, and she acts like a little kid who's afraid of her own shadow.

It's so ... cutthroat in a simpering smile and babydoll bows. Baby Jane with duck lips. Gross.

I just can't see Leslie and Gerry together--she's the wrong "speed" as you say. Also I'm not sure what they talk about besides ATV rides and Leslie's life story. Finding a steady man is great, but you need something more to do/talk about in your daily life. Maybe we just don't see that deeper connection happening.

He should have kept Ellen.

Does anybody else have their fingers crossed for Joan coming back? The producers extended the season from 8 to 9 episodes.

I'd like to see Joan do something with the franchise again, for sure.

Joan is okay but I don't get the fascination with her over, say, Nancy or Edith.

Oh, Edith was my favorite of them all, and I liked her best myself. I just think Joan is riveting for the strangely immobile lip and sort of haughty, how-dare-you feel she gives when she looks around. It was reminiscent to me of Paris Hilton on The Simple Life farm show.

I don't know, but there is something about her frozen-lipped superiority vibe that I found really compelling, in a train wreck way. I'd watch the heck out of that on a weekly basis.

I loved Edith, and I'm the pp with the long brunette hair. When I retire I'm growing the grey out, and I only wish I could look as boss as Edith. I also liked Susan, but I agree she wasn't conventionally cute and she was a little bossy, which Gerry doesn't seem up for.

I don't really like either Leslie or Teresa. Leslie's only shtik is how she wants a solid man now, and we really haven't seen anything else besides that ATV ride. Does she really want a solid man, and is she ever going to get over having dated Prince and those other apparently super-charismatic losers who dumped her? Is there anything more to her that the editors just haven't shown us? And Teresa was just manipulative during the whole spat with Kathy, plus I don't enjoy watching her lip filler dissolve.

Faith was my favorite. Too bad she took herself out of the running with "I have to stay near my dead horse." There must have been something else?

Faith was my favorite too. Maybe she doesn't want him, or really is crazy about him but knows it wouldn't work, and at this point in the game instead of saying so it was better to just plant herself next to her dead horse? I don't know, lol.

Team Theresa here. I am rooting for her because she is his age. And she's a widow. She's very petite next to all the other women. I looked at a group photo again from the first night. I wondered why the other women look like giants next to her. She's getting too much hate. She hasn't done anything to deserve the amount of hate she gets. If he does choose her, I feel sorry for how much hate that will come her way. I hope she doesn't read the comments.

She's too needy and has that passive-aggressive manipulative thing some of us find very annoying. I'm sure she's "nice" but that doesn't mean she's likeable.

DP. Agree on the passive aggressive point (complaining to Gerry about Kathy), but I don’t find Theresa particularly emotionally needy, plus she had a career in finance so is presumably on her feet financially. Leslie is emotionally needy, with decades of choosing the wrong men and then feeling sorry for herself when it goes wrong again, and to me that’s a red flag.

The needy is the almost frantic "I need that rose" and "I want that rose," the sly little digging claws and eyes shooting daggers with a feigned half-smile. She gives the impression that she'd poison any well because she's so needy for validation.

She’s competitive, which is different. It goes with the financial background. I didn’t see sly little digging claws except once or twice when she was up against Kathy, and you have to admit Kathy initiated that.

I thought Theresa was being unfairly targeted by Kathy until she turned to Kathy at the rose ceremony and said all fake-sweetly, "And he came to my room to comfort me . . ." And then I was like, oh no, she's just petty and manipulative.

The tricky thing about this show is that they all have kids and grandkids they want to live near. They're not 24 year olds who want to move to L.A. Do you really want to move GamGam away from her grandkids and then in 5-15 years she needs care and is far away?

Right. Petty and manipulative. There's no authenticity there, and that's pretty sad to say about someone who is seventy years old.

If you haven't been able to become a better person by then, you'll just die being crass.

Agree w/PP. Leslie is the only one who may potentially move.

P.S. Hate the cliffhanger! I suspect Faith's out. Sad to see the bachelor so emotional, likely due to back-to-back redeye flights, pressure from production, and lack of sleep.

I don’t love Theresa, but this is a bit unfair. He went to her room after Kathy got her claws into her. I guess we’ll learn more about what went on behind the scenes on ladies’ night or whatever that is. Until then I’m withholding judgement.

Agree that being near friends and family is so important at that age. I’m starting to feel it myself. I can see Theresa moving too, though. At least, I didn’t see anything to suggest she wouldn’t move, and Leslie and Theresa both have grandkids so that didn’t differentiate them.

I’m guessing he was so distraught at the end of the last episode because he liked Faith the best. As did I.

All Kathy did was say, "this is the kind of thing you need to stop talking about all the time, Theresa," or words to that effect.

What exactly did Kathy say that wasn't fair and accurate about just basic politeness?
