He won’t be able to recruit under the microscopic lens he’s earned in both PWCPS & now FCPS. I think the external investigation will lead to meaningful changes that conform to VHSL guidance. The boundary review is going to make it harder for HSS FB & BBB as it will eliminate HSS as an option for military families aboard Fort Belvoir, so they won’t even have access to those kids. He’ll be just like every other coach in the county, making the best unit from the local kids. That’s not his M.O. He’d leave on his own.

This is wishful thinking. Overton said at signing day we are just getting started. He’ll get his kids in district earlier - 7th grade - and nobody will be able to stick recruiting charges on him then.

Hey Coach O. I hope someone teaches you basic English one of these days.

It’s a message board and people type informally all the time on this thread but only pro-Hayfield messages get these “grammar” responses. Nice dog whistle.

Bless your heart.
Dont bless me. Bless the victims of white supremacy. Bless the kids that are being hated on and whose football season was ruined by the haters.

Also bless the haters themselves. Lets hope they lose the insecurities that have caused this behavior.

FYI, the school district does not have to have a reason to non renew Coach Overton. Coaching contracts are one-year at will contracts. They can be non renewed for absolutely no reason. I think the county is working on a way to get the Principal out of Hayfield. Once he's gone they will have a quick 2 minute conversation with Overton that his coaching contract won't be renewed in the fall and then he's done. The idea that they need to have proof or hard evidence is ignorant to what has happened to many coaches. Most coaches who are let go are simply non renewed and never given a reason which makes it impossible to fight against legally.

Speaking of insecurities, let’s bless all those who use the race card to deflect attention away from the real issues, poor character and dishonesty, among several others. Oh, and cheating. Nice trying. Go have a coffee and think about how you will cleverly bring race back into a discussion that has nothing to do with race. So sad that this is all you have.

The sad part is, people who defend Overton and Hayfield won’t understand this and will scream race as the reason why he will be non-renewed. You have the vast majority of the Hayfield community that wants him gone. You have 99% of the school district that what’s him gone. There is a small minority of individuals the have drank the Kool-Aide and this is the sword they will fall on. Maybe one day and with significant hours of counseling behind them, they will eventually understand that what happened with the Hayfield football program was wrong. It may take years for this to happen, but I will pray for those few that still want to cling to something other than what this is, cheating.

Thanks for the post Coach O. We’ll make sure that residency checks are under a microscope for the entire Hayfield Secondary School pyramid. We appreciate you looking out for the real residents of the community!

Make sure you check the residency of the teams with white coaches too.

You know, Coach Taylor at MVHS and Coach Louisville at West Potomac are black & no one has questioned their integrity. It’s almost as though this is an Overton problem, not a race problem.

They aren’t blowing out every team in fcps they are playing either

If they had anything on Overton, he would have been banned or disciplined. They don’t.

I disagree. From a legal perspective, FCPS can simply refrain from renewing his coaching contract. Non-renewal is a much easier and cleaner way to let him go.

The stickier issue is with the principal. it appears that he has caused some exposure (choosing words carefully) to retaliation claims and if I were FCPS would want the benefit of the external legal review before taking any action.

Typically in investigations in the corporate world cleaning house of various actors is not unusual, fair or not. One way to insulate (to a degree) from retaliation claims is to clean house. FCPS is not a corporation but legal liability is unpleasant to any large entity. It is somewhat understandable that the HSS parents and their kids playing football don't have a full appreciation of this dilemma. But it is a real factor.

I noted with some interest the Apostle's screed against the ending of the Hayfield football season. She attacked a FCPS coach as racist. I assume that this is the reason her screed has been taken down. The Apostle was no doubt informed of the possibility of defamation liability. Not so smart.

One thing about those who support the racial angle are missing. Gaining a college scholarship. particularly in the Power 4, is an incredibly long odds proposition - very long odds. Hayfield has two 3 star players. No certainty at all they will end up playing, particularly the receiver at 5"10 155 lbs. Of course the ACC team will put 20 pounds on him but no one can predict whether he will remain fast enough to play at the Power 4 level. Not a knock on the kid - for all I know he is a nice kid. But D1 football is brutal.

I was a D1 scholarship Power 4 guy years ago. Ditto for my brother. The chances of getting a scholarship in our sport were tiny. In hindsight it was foolish to count on an athletic scholarship, especially since once granted one one had to subordinate academics to athletics. My brother and I, both poor, were Phi Beta Kappa for a reason. It was the only kind of goal that made sense. Otherwise the system works you rather than you making it work for you. The focus should be on improving the academics of all black males, and this won't happen for most through football. The glorification of high school football doesn't help many. Note this comment is from a guy who likes and knows sports.

Thank you for this. Too many parents hope for stardom for their kids when hoping for good academics is so much better.

Are we living in a bubble on this forum?

“ While the Hayfield situation is perhaps the biggest black eye for Virginia’s largest school district in years, school board members in general — even those critical of her performance on this specific issue — appear to remain supportive of Reid’s overall leadership.”

Where is there any evidence to support this? Even Hayfield/Freedom sycophants want her to resign.

Because. If your biggest scandal is a football product in an area that can careless about high school football, heck even College football. Then you are really doing that bad of a job? (kanye shrug)

I am amazed by people who still think this is merely a football problem (I will assume that is what the above poster meant to write). It speaks volumes of them and their education.

It’s definitely more than a football program. This was about race. It’s a race problem.

They weren’t going to allow some Black guy to come into Fairfax County and build a powerhouse of a team that will dominate any other fcps school. Then he had nerve to attract talented players that were Black.

Madison is been representing Fairfax county in the Championship for years and that’s how the good white folks of Fairfax County want it. Try to change that and it’s going to be a problem.

You don’t “attract” talent in HS athletics!!!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Your team is made up from the students in your boundary for your school (yes I understand there are exceptions for AUTHORIZED attendance at schools outside your zoned school). This entire issue is because he frickin RECRUITED talented players to illegally transfer to Hayfield. This is NOT the NCAA or NFL or some elite club team. It’s HS athletics for gods sake.

The Hayfraud parents never accept this. They still, to this day, believe it is perfectly acceptable to recruit high school students from other teams. All they care about is the end result and building a dynasty. Their dynasty is made out of sand because it is against the rules to recruit. They love to crow about their wins when we know and they know their coach recruited huge numbers for the team and other schools don't do this. They will never accept that the coach can not recruit students.

Once again, this isn't a race issue. Overton came and won so many games because he didn't follow the rules. You do not "build a powerhouse of a program" in high school because you are not allowed to recruit students. HOW DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THIS?

You are basically trying to explain quantum physics to a rock. The transfers, their families, the coaches etc...will never acknowledge any wrongdoing. It is frankly fascinating.

That's it. They just double down while admitting in their posts that Overton recruited players from other schools.

Why so pessimistic? Coach O and Dr T are just getting started. They are in it for the long haul to “build a powerhouse.” What’s 2 years when Coach O is 100% committed to Hayfield and the community and will be here for 30 years handing out Thanksgiving dinners?

As a Hayfield staff member and an actual member of the Hayfield community, I hope this doesn’t happen. They have done so much damage to the true Hayfield community.

I’m just bidding my time waiting for Thompson and Overton to leave.

What about Crowley? Will she be reinstated at Hayfield after being moved to Annandale for bringing up the issue to Thompson?

She should sue. This is one of the slimiest ascpects of this entire debacle.

DP. I actually think it's the worst aspect of the entire scandal. Silencing whistle blowers should be a red line not to be crossed. Football is a game and not a big deal in the scheme of things. If she was silenced and transferred for a sport, imagine what else they'd do if an employee started asking questions about more serious infractions

As a theoretical example, something major happening at the school and the director of security being unqualified to deal/assist with such an event? The other security people there also not being much help because perhaps they have no training and background in security?
