What's going on with FCV GA?

Anonymous
I can tell you all with 100% certainty as a FCV parent that players are going to scatter everywhere. From what I am hearing now, most of the top players from each age group are in fact going to move to VDA, Union, Bethesda and even Arlington. Have not heard a single mention of Brave. Some of these players might be moving as early as next week.

The rest of the players including GA2 teams are split between FCV and VRSC. I think the end product in this will be stronger ECNL teams accross the board and three mid table to bottom table GA teams. Wild card is ECNL RL. I have not heard anyone mention moving to ECRL teams but I have heard some ECRL families will be checking out GA oppurtunities.

I say good for ECNL. Adding talent to already good teams only helps. I also say, as for us, players moving only means more playing time for my DD at the GA club we will choose between.

I wouldn't say total BS, it's an opinion, one of many, but there are some nuggets of truth in there.

"players are going to scatter everywhere." - probably true
"most of the top players from each age group are in fact going to move to VDA, Union, Bethesda and even Arlington." - if they're scattering everywhere, these would be likely landing spots.
"The rest of the players including GA2 teams are split between FCV and VRSC." - again probably true
"I think the end product in this will be stronger ECNL teams accross the board and three mid table to bottom table GA teams." if the above happens, then this naturally becomes true
"players moving only means more playing time for my DD at the GA club we will choose between." Again, if the above happens, this becomes true

Absolutely not BS. I mean, there is only 3 or 4 top players in each age group that may go to ECNL teams. Maybe 5 or 6 in some years. Union and VDA seem to be the main draw and some thinking Loudoun in younger ages.

Families were leaning more towards VRSC at first until meetings this week. Some families are impressed with the new GA Director from Seattle and are warming up to FCV a little more. FCV has said they are hoping to make an announcement as early as Friday on field space, locations and coaches.

VRSC already set in most areas with coaches and fields but perhaps a little disorganized getting info out but known coaches and fields outweigh emails and social media (FCV).

Will be interesting to see how it unfolds especially if when open tryouts attract any ECRL and Vice Versa. I have not heard of any interest to move to an ECRL team with the current fallout.

Now you're getting it. This is an ECNL troll + part of the cult. Call them out.

Notice how they say ECNL but won't mention the club their kid plays for. Likely because everyone will laugh because it will be the worst one in league.

Better ECNL clubs parents will identify themselves by the achievements of their own club because they don't need to piggyback off other clubs results.

I hope not at least for the 05/06 group. They are all signed so there is no issue on the individual level. But as a team they are probably the only team in the DMV that can compete at a national level for that age group. Would be nice for them to end the year on top before the FCV enters it's new chapter. I guess we'll see as spring arrives.

As a coach I always tell my parents/players that tryouts aren't really for them. I've seen them for 9-10 months, if I haven't figured out their abilities by then.... try outs for my existing players is mainly for me to know they are still interested in staying on the team/club and to allow me to have a baseline to compare the other kids to.

On most younger teams, there is usually only 1-2 players on the bubble to get moved up or down, so unless you have a bunch of players bailing on your team (and that does happen...) most the time you aren't looking for that many players. It is MUCH easier to form additional teams at younger age groups and continue to sort them out as they get older then try to deal with the fallout of moving players around sadly. Trust when I say that most coaches would love to have complete flexibility to promote/demote players as their ability dictates, but at many clubs politics DOES get in the way.

It's a combination of too many parents not accepting when their child would be better off playing on a lower team, and threatens to leave and the grass is greener syndrome. A few clubs do a good job of making the best soccer decision, but far too many get caught up in the politics.
