Oakton crash

Like congrats your daughter goes to Oakton, we absolutely needed that input.

Yes, there is a term for it. It's called empathy.

On Blake Lane, BMW hits Toyota and three Oakton HS pedestrians (2001)

Wow, that’s creepy.

"Amar Desai, a friend of the driver, said the 17-year-old got the BMW as a gift from his parents about two months ago." Deja Vu.

Oakton parents still haven't learned the lesson....Shame on them!

Nothing wrong with giving a kid a car, whichever brand it is, as long as they were taught to be responsible human beings.

It’s so creepy the accident happened on the same section of Blake ln, in the same direction. Something should be done there, maybe a speed camera? I saw a cop car sitting at Blake ln park and a new speed sign around that area, but we need them on this end too.

In this case type of car matters...I guess you've never driven a BMW...

A Corolla goes from 0-60mph in 7+ seconds (a new one). A BMW goes 0-60mph in 2 seconds.

3+ seconds.

The BMW he was driving (a 2018 BMW 530i) goes 0-60mph in 6 seconds. This was a BMW, but by no means a sporty version of a 5 series - BMW makes the 535, 550, and M5, all of which have larger engines. This is basically the bottom spec model.

Right, now people expressing empathy are attacked because they feel sad. Oakton/Vienna HS is a crowded residential area and lots of people travel through Blake ln everyday. The memorial is right there, it’s a reminder to everyone of us who drive/ride/walk on that street everyday that a tragedy happened there. We don’t have the right to express that sadness?? And yeah that empathy helps raise funds for the impacted families. It’s a good thing. Please don’t trash on other people’s feeling.

I’m just saying, you can express empathy and sadness without having to state how close you live or work etc. No one cares, it’s not important. It doesn’t make you more special or in the know to live by the intersection. It just looks weird when people are commenting things like I drive on that road! Is this a popularity contest?

Still no charges? Not even identity of driver? So will walk away free and not even have to be ashamed because no one knows?

JFC. Since when is driving on Blake Lane popular??

If you can't understand human emotions and reactions to tragedy as simple as this, you should look within rather than judging others.

Why do you think they will not be charged? It's been one week.

There was another crash Fairfax County was investigating recently that took about two weeks for the charges today announced. Most likely they’re trying to get the most severe/appropriate charges possible, but need to validate the airbag/car data with crime reconstruction scene data..

Popularity contest was facetious. I’m sure others feel the same way- it’s a weird reaction for everyone to immediately comment and post about their proximity to a tragedy.

Seriously?!? It's a foreign concept to you that proximity affects empathy?? Do a basic Google search to see how this is very common. We react to things that are close to us differently from things that are on the other side of world. If you can imagine yourself being in someone else's shoes, in this case by driving or walking on that road, you will have more empathy than in the case when you can't even see yourself in someone else's position. This is not rocket science.

I take it you’re one of the people commenting in VF or on this post about how close you are to Blake Lane. Got it.

Your take is wrong, but based on this interaction, you must be very used to being wrong.

I’m in that group, I live right around the corner, I didn’t know the families personally, I didn’t post, but I don’t have any problem with those who posted on VF. End of story. People in this country is overly judgmental on the smallest most trivial stuff.

Most of the local community knows the name as do all of the Oakton students
The students have indicated they want a harsh punishment
One of his friends was interviewed on the news and no longer is a friend.
So I think the community has started to speak out
